Default XP: Wrapping the exhaust before the turbo.

I've wrapped the headers while the head is off the car and am thinking of wrapping the crossover to the turboas well but am NOT looking forward to pulling the exhaust to do it.

Has anyone wrapped the exhaust while in the car? How hard is it to get it all the way up to the turbo?

Also, I'm thinking of using the Turbo shield kit made by DEI. Anyone try this? I bought their heat wrap but don't see a seperate lisiting for the heat shield...

TIA

Excuse my Turbo ignorance, but by wrapping the exhaust components, are you not decreasing the efficiency of the turbo by keeping heat that would normally be dissipated by the metal to the air contained? Wouldn't the air now be hotter once compressed?

The longer you can keep the exhaust gases hot, the more efficient your turbo will be (this is only on the turbine side) becuase, as the gases cool, they slow down and cause an increase in backpressure. This will allow the turbine to spin faster, sooner decreasing lag.

In reality, the gains are pretty minor.

After looking at the exaust again, I decided not too even try removing the crossover pipe.

Other than keeping heat out of the engine bay, no.

People have datalogged 100 RPMs quicker spoolup after wrapping the header/crossover. On the 951, it is VERY important because of how far the exhaust gas has to travel to reach the turbo.

100 RPMs is a HUGE gain!!!

absolutely!

but, keeping heat out of the engine bay may be good for me.... it gets hot under there...
