Default oil fill tube

question, where the oil fill tube attaches to engine (top hole), i see scuffing on the outer "face". i know the o ring is on the side, so i wonder if this is important...
also, as i took the intake manifold off two days ago, the dipstick tube just fell to the side when i took the retining bolt off. it has an orange o ring near the bottom, but is it suppose to be so loose?

Oil dipstick tube should sit in the side of the pan, the oring makes the seal. I dont really understand what you are saying on the oil air seperator, there is an upper o ring and a lower oring, both different sizes, and the unit is held to the side of the block by 3 bolts.

on the block, the top hole for the oil fill has some scratches on the outer edge. would this contribute to an oil leak?

Very possible. What i have started doing is putting some copper RTV around the new orings to help seal. I have seen those leak, even after the o rings are replaced.

While you are in there, make sure you dab some copper RTV on the back cover to the upper balance shaft, It comes loose and it can really leak oil down into the same spot as the OAS. Copper RTV works as a patch, as to replace the Oring that makes the seal on the rear cover you have to remove the timing belts, etc and it is a pretty big job.

i'm taking the front appart as of three days ago, and removed the IM (hope i can remember where all the hoses go, i number them, but you never know...), so i have a clear view of the UBS. when i crawled under the car to install the flywheel lock icould see the lower one. if i take the exhaust manifold out (nuts look so rusty) it looks like i can get to it, anywat , i'm also doing the cooler while i'm there. by the way, the steering pump's a mess. can't tell where all the leaks come from and the front spacer was a bear... anyway, thanks for the replies. it's helped a lot.
