Default Weltmeister control arm bushings too big?

I'm rebuilding my control arms and can't seem to get the front bushings in at all. They seem to be just too big to go in. Right now I've got them in the freezer to see if I can shrink them a bit. Any other tips on getting them in?

Also, is there an easy way to get the origional bushing out? The first one took a long time and I'm not looking forward to drilling out and chipping out the rubber on the other one if there's an easier way.

they need to be pressed in and out. a simple bottle press can be used.
just break off the outside plate on one side of the bushing and press both halves through from one side. it will press out in about 15 seconds. I have removed by hand before and its just not worth it.
find a press and take a civilized approach.

Did you remove the steel bushing sleeve from the control arm when you removed the old stock bushing? The Welts require that steel sleeve be removed to fit properly, otherwise will never squeeze into there.

did you end up pressing it out? the press will push out everything - bushing and sleeves. you can use a socket as a draft, large enough to just pass through the bore.

Funny story there actually. I ended up milling the bushing to fit with the sleeve in place. I've got access to a computer controlled mill in my dad's basement, but no press and no machine shops were open over the weekend. It all went together nicely in the end though.
I am getting an alignment tomorrow so we'll see if they say they're out of spec or not.

yep, those steel sleeves are a bitch to get out. but it sounds like you found a way around it. once i got the sleeves out, the red weltmeister bushings popped right in.

It is a Light Machines TMC 1000

He got it for free from a local high school when the repair man from the company who made the mill basicaly said it was so old for them to repair as they did not have any documentation on it and no one there had seen one before. The day after my dad picked it up he found an unmarked fuse soldered onto the control board that had blown. Everything worked perfectly once that was replaced.
