Get gas now

well at the very least tomorrow will be a better day to buy gas:
Aug. 31 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. Energy Department Secretary
Samuel Bodman told financial news network CNBC the U.S. will tap
its Strategic Petroleum Reserve to meet a request for oil, and
can do so as soon as tomorrow.
``In a word, it is going to be done,'' Bodman said in an
interview. ``It is a decision we made last night. We will be
tapping the supply.''
Bodman said the move was approved and an announcement will
be coming today. He said the U.S. will make a loan or exchange
process that can start meeting companies' needs as soon as
tomorrow.
He also told CNBC that the Energy Department is working with
utilities to coordinate the restoration of electric power as soon
as possible to help resume the operation of pipelines in
Mississippi and elsewhere affected by power outages from
Hurricane Katrina.

On Cicero last night (near Midway) Regular was (are you ready?) 3.61. Premium was at 3.93!
Near my house, it went over 3.08 for regular. I was already looking at buying a TDI Beetle and with Diesel at 2.68 it is time to make the switch. Of course TDI prices went up about 20% over night.

It was $2.59 here for 87 octane in Centerville, OH. I filled up the SUV this morning at the Shell station. We haven't seen the price crunch here yet evidently.

$2.59 yesterday morning, $2.79 last night. I saw a range from $2.69 to $2.99 on my way to work this morning.
First it's the crude, then it's the "wholesale price of gas", then it's "refining capacity". They certainly have a lot of excuses for the price hikes, don't they? I believe that a lot of this has to do with pure speculation. One expert comes out and says they sky is falling and gas will be $4, then another guy comes and says it's not as bad and production should be ramping up soon.
It's like a plane crash...I'm sick watching it, but it's hard to stop....

At one point they stopped giving excuses when the price of gas went from less than $1 to $2.50 in less than 3 years. They know about the inelastic demand nature of gasoline especially when people spent all this money on large vehicles. We are getting ripped off by an oligopoly. I am glad I drive less than 5 miles a day and get 25 miles per gallon. Still, my last fill up for the full size bronco to tow yet another 944 (bought 944 #13 - most of them need work and I have no time) back home cost me more than $85 a tank.
