Default Cylinder walls

Are our cylinder walls suppose to be smooth? The car is an 86 na and I just got the head off (crazy eazy compared to my e30 bmw) and I see no crosshatch marks, the walls are almost white. I ran a compression test before I bought the car about a month ago and I got 180 psi across all 4 cylinders. This normal?

Yes, smooth is good. 180PSI is also very good.

it's the lack of belt covers.

Hey that is right taking off the belt covers is one of the few real power gainers.

That is why I don't run them on my 944-spec. May also have been why you lost it on the wet roads with all that extra power.

Gotta respect the NA without belt covers. Might even be able to take a 951.

Well that was just because you have Mad Skillz Yo...

Or the other guy sucked.

Did I tell you about the time in during a race when a race prepared viper was holding me up in my 944-spec? Then got around him and drove away? No belt cover baby.

Well, he's my friend, so I hate to say you're right... it was his first time on the track, and someone told him that 22 PSI in the tires is correct... well, obviously, it's not... so he was sliding everywhere, I start half a lap behind him, and by the time he got off, I was beginning the straight as he was ending it...

Wait a minuted... So you did not actually PASS him...

It does not count unless you could actualy get by dude or at LEAST get point by. I remember catching and getting point by from C5 Vette on hoosiers at one of my last DE's before I started to race. Never passed him though as he gave me the point by just getting on to the 5/8 mile straight. I just laughed as he failed to back off one bit.

Cross hatching, when it's used, is to help new rings seat, it doesn't last long.
