It is my understanding that you need to use the S2 flywheel. I haven't done this and I only know this from memory of reading other threads about the 968 swap.

do a search on engine swap.

Yea, that's what Matt says as well. Anyone know the part numbers on the speed and reference sensors for the 924S and the 968?

More progress made tonight, I pulled the dash and took out all the blowers and such.

Strangely enough I was wondering what my car would look like without the dash when I was fixing the odometer earlier this evening. I really like the lift, by the way! What is the interior going to look like when you're done?

The dash is going back in, I just wanted to get rid of the weight hiding under it. I still need to clean it up a bit, remove some of the glue and such. Once that is done, and the 968 engine and 951 tranny are in the remainder of the cage will be built.

Between travel and being without power for most of a week, I've finally gotten back to the project. All belts, rollers, and most gaskets have been replaced on the engine. The engine has been put back into the car but there is one problem that I've found, the engine hits the brake master cyclinder. I removed it and was able to bolt the engine up, but cannot if it is attached. Suggestions are welcome at this point.

A couple of thoughts. Have you looked at how the servo/master cylinder on a 968 is located? Would a 944 S2 Manifold work in place of he 968 unit?

Another option maybe to replace the unit completely by using a custom pedal/master cylinder setup (ie the sort of thing used in kit cars and single seaters) and a remote servo.

The PET shows a different servo (ATE versus Girling) and mounting plate for the 968. Maybe the ATE servo from the 968 is physically smaller, or the mounting plate is shallower?

It looks like the 968 mounting plate is shallower and pointed up more.

Failing this, has anyone run the master without the brake booster?

To run the master without the booster is going to make braking VERY hard since essentially you will end up with manual brakes. You might look into a hydroboost MC which gets is power from the power steering pump rather than vaccum from the manifold. IIRC the intake manifold on the S2 is pretty much the same as the 968 one as far as clearance goes, I had to remove the intake before I could take out the S2 MC too. If you want to take some measurements of your manifold I have an S2 manifold lying around that I can measure for you if you want to try that route.

I just checked PET, the 1992 968's brake uses a 951 pedistal and master cylinder. Maybe track down those?

I picked up a 968 brake booster and base on ebay tonight ($20), hopefully it will work.

Good luck on the glue. When I had the door panels open I went ahead and removed the original glue holding on the vapor barriers. Nasty stuff, it took a lot of rubbing with goo gone to get rid of that junk. It should be pretty nice in there when you're done, especially with all the dust that's settled over the years out of the car.

Good god Tim. That is going to be AMAZING!> I drove Marty's 968 transplant in his 87 944S and is was lethal.

Youre gonna kick some butt on the track. DONT go widebody, then it'll look lkie every other 944 out there..

j/k.
