Car has been running great. Yesterday morning I moved it out of the driveway to park on the street (construction going on in house and needed driveway clear). It was running for about a minute and I moved it about 50 feet. It sounded fine as it usually does. At night I started it up to put it back in the driveway and there was a ticking noise coming from the engine. the next mornig I checked the oil, was a little low (about 3/4 of a court). I added oil started it up and still ticking. Anybody have any ideas/advice?

if the oil level is low and you put some in it and it ticks after starting it up...it hasn't worked through yet...it does that with mine...when i first put the oil in and start it up...it hasn't fully circulated yet...if it still does it after 50 seconds or so...hmm...i don't know

My lifters tick pretty loud for the first 5 minutes or so when I start up from cold.. then the engine sounds 100% normal. Are you burning oil at all? I am, pretty badly.

Mine used to tick very loud for the first 5 minutes it ran, I thought for sure it was my lifters but it ended up being a cracked timing belt roller.

Sure is isn't an exhaust leak? Check the nuts at the head. Mine was ticking and sure enough a couple nuts had worked loose. Tightened them up this morning and all is well.

3/4 qt low should not make the lifters tap. If it is a lite sounding tick, could be one of the injectors. The injectors in these cars are famous for being loud. I just got back 4 injectors that I had rebuilt and flow tested. They are really loud.
I would also pull the timing belt cover and make sure everything up there is up to par. That is the one place you don't want anything but perfect operation. No short cuts.

Probably lifters, one might be on the way out, they don't fail catastrophically so you get lots of warning.
I don't get people saying 944 injectors are loud. I've owned a several of these cars and have never heard mine make anything more than a very quiet click, you can't hear it at all with the hood closed. Maybe I'm lucky?

What are the options for lifters and does it mess with the wear pattern on the cam?
Specificaly where is the best place to get them.
Is there any performance to be gained from lighter ones (that is worth it)?
Do I need to follow a special break in procedure for them and the cam? (most V8s HATE new lifters/cams and you must replace them both at the same time or you run a high risk of cam/lifter failure)
I ask because mine make a bit of noise and I will be rebuilding my motor soon.
