Get rid of the sound deadening period, and go with lightweight carpet. Search for a thread by Rich Sandor about it.

Get rid of power seat stuff. Ive lifted both kinds, the powers are heavier by prolly 10-20 pounds each.

Lose the brakes. Unsprung weight is the heaviest and you need to learn to momentum drive anyways.

Lose the bb gun too. Not only will you lose some weight, but someone will lose an eye!

sorry, I couldn't resist. The fiberglass and CF body panels (including bumpers) and Lexan glass will lose a ton of weight, but might be more dangerous on the streets . . .

All you gotta do is look at it funny... You do not want a lexan windshield! Every bug you hit will leave a permanent mark.

are you going to track it? if so, get rid of the sorry-*** stock seats. put some lightweight one-piece seats that save 30 lbs each and hold your butt in place. loose the sound deadening altogether. it's overrated and heavy. lose the radio, cruise control, electric sunroof, washer fluid reservoir, rear wiper, and rear seat. don't bother with the PITA of switching to manual mirrors or windows. not worth the effort in my opinion.

Recaro SPG's (seems to save maybe 30 lbs per seat, but expensive), remove rear seatbacks (felt like about 7 lbs each). Total wrenching time, about 1 hour.

You now have a two-seater that most folks will find will not fit their behinds for a cost of $1600 plus rails = $1700.

Why did you want to lighten the car again? It does get expensive...

maybe lexan qurater windows would be a nice upgrade for casual weight savers such as myself.

why? every little bit counts.

i forgot about
cruise.
windsheild washer fluid container and tubes.
all the misc. bolts and screws that you end up with after an overhaul.

cool stuff. if ive added and geustimated correctly i could be pushing 150-200lbs lost by sacrificing amenities i never used anyway.

great stuff everyone. thanks.
as for seat. do they make recaros in white? lol.

Seats would make some of the biggest "bang for the buck" weight savings.

Corbeau Forzas weigh ~15 lbs each. I have a manual comfort driver's seat, and an electric sport passenger seat. They both weigh a ton compared to the Forza. I'd guesstimate a solid 40+ lbs of savings here. The Forzas run about $250 each. Rails will set you back another ~$65.

Weight savings for me doesn't mean squat unless it's cost effective. I don't have a race team covering my street car expenses. You've already got the other decent cost-effective ideas...A/C, rear seat, undercarpet insulation. If there were a way to replace the rear glass with something lighter, I'd jump on it.

Manual windows is a killer idea, I wish I knew where/how to source them! Same with the roof.

And I had a carbon fiber hood custom made for my last car for $550. Saved me 22 lbs on the nose. This was a FWD car, but regardless, it would still help. Other than that, fiberglass panels aren't a good idea for a street car IMHO, plus they are $$$$$ and you'd have to have everything painted (so much for cost effective).

Good luck!
