STOP! Don't throw those strut parts away
Well, at least not the gland nuts. I am rebuilding my struts with Koni inserts and thought I still had a set of gland nuts around. I can't use the ones that came with the "old" Bilstein inserts on Koni inserts because the shaft is a different size. Well, anyway, I can't find the ones I thought I had from the last time I used Koni shocks, and NOBODY I have called trying to find new ones has any in stock. What's worse, I was told by Jason that PCNA doesn't even show any in their system in North America. SUCK! Fortunately Jason reminded me to call George B to see what he had and low and behold he had some used ones.
Moral of the story: If you are replacing your strut inserts on early style struts, make sure you can get new gland nuts before your tear into the project. If you can't get new you will likely have to reuse the old ones, so don't tear them up with a pipe wrench.
NOTE: If you are replacing with Bilstein HD inserts you don't need to worry because Bilstein inserts come with their own specific gland nuts

I imagine they aren't such a royal pain if you have the correct wrench, which I don't. And a bicycle bottom bracket lock ring spanner only marginally works as a substitute. At least you don't have to worry about it on your 89

Manning, I've got two used struts from an '87 924S. You want em? Let me know how much they're worth to you if you want, I'm trying to get rid of them since they're probably too stiff for my engine in the front of my car.
