a snake is trapped in your gas tank and is rather miffed. i would be worried. sooner or later he will come out and bite you

but no 20 seconds is not normal. that's weird.

Yup, pretty normal for a functioning system. My cap doesn't hold pressure anymore so I don't get that on my 951, but my Lincoln does it all the time. Don't worry about it.

If I run the tank way down, like to empty and it's hot outside, my car does that too. The reason, air(or fuel vapor) expands more than liquid. Also, the fuel system loops due to the FPR. Basicly, when it's hot, especially in traffic or idleing the fuel rail acts as a fuel heater from engine bay temps and when the level is low there is less fuel to circulate. This also exaggerates the problem, the same fuel is being circulated and heated due to less volume of fuel. Just be glad that it holds pressure, you could be posting about a terrible fuel smell in the cabin, lol. About a week ago it was nearly 100 out and I was just below empty(almost to walk) and stuck in a bad traffic jam. When I finally made it to the gas station and opened the cap, I thought I'd be there through dinner it took so long to vent, lol. Seriously it was about 25-35 secs to bleed off. I'd say no biggie. Just a tip, the fuel helps cool the pump, try to stay above 1/4 tank to prolong the life of the fuel pump.

Unless I am mistaken, the 944 uses an external (i.e. not mounted inside the tank) fuel pump. This style of pump is adequately cooled as long as there is gasoline running through it, so unless you run completely out of fuel the pump will be satisfactorily cooled.

Even in-tank submerged pumps, which do rely upon dissipating heat into the surrounding gasoline, will not be uncovered unless the fuel level drops rather decently below about 1/8 tank.

one more quick note... I can tell it's time to depressurize the fuel tank because of the rank *** smell of fuel in the cabin.. when it's depressurized, i can't smell it. when it's pressurized, It reeks of it.

I second the empty tank. Vacuum is created when the tank is empty.

the overfill line, top of the filler neck, may be plugged, it drops by the rr wheel.
another line runs from inside the filler neck to the storage area on the rt side where it exits.

run something stiff, i used saftey wire, to make sure both are clear.
