Default Best clutch, bang for buck!

Ok, I need to order a clutch for my trackcar (924S). This car is getting a 968 engine and 951 tranny. The keeping the 924S bellhousing and t-tube and I am having a 944S2 flywheel reworked to remove weight. So, do I just go with a stock 944S2 clutch or a Sachs clutch? Are there other options out there that I should consider?

I've never gone wrong with a Sachs setup.

I had a cheap aftermarket pressure plate come apart at high rpm on a VW once. Made a nice hole in the track and gave me a nice high - rise hood.

You need to talk to Matt Olde - he knows the woes.

Yea, Talk to Matt, great guy. Also, you can try his website dedicated to his car. http://www.944s3.com/944S3/

OK n/m since i'm a nice guy, i'll just tell you.

You will be using the 968 flywheel sensor, mounted on the S2 bracket, mounted on the 944 na clutch housing. Even though that sounds like a complete hack job, trust me -- it works, and works great -- I drive with it every day!

The stock clutch is made by sachs. It simply has a porsche stamp and a higher price..

Yes, I'm well aware of Matt O. and his 944S3 website, both have been extremely helpful I was not so much asking what size clutch, that I know (944S2 sizeing), instead I was asking for makes. I'm familiar with the OE and Sachs, are there other brands that may be more appropriate for a track/race car? I've sunk enough money into this project that if I need to buy a clutch that is $200 more than the Sachs, but is dramatically better, than I'll suck it up and pay the extra. So, having said that, what's the best clutch out there?

Tim,
Thats a tuffy. The turbo guys use the "Cup Clutch" as a alternative which is better than stock/OE, but still made by sachs. LR sells Spec clutch kits, Stage I thru IV with III and IV begin 6 or 4puck discs and lightweight ones as well. For racing, i would go with III or IV. I'm not aware of any other brands.

I seen SFR is selling Clutch Masters stage 0 and 2 kit. Seem to look pretty good, but I have not had any experience with CM. I am not sure if a KEP pressure plate would be overkill for you or not. Chris White sells a plethora of clutch disc types as well. www.944enhancement.com

Tim,
I noticed that aripop (sp?) has a spec stage II clutch kit in his S2. I'd contact him and see what he has to say about it.

Centerforce is cheaper by $100 than the stock S2 clutch, and is signficantly better.

www.944S2.com has a link to a retailer that sells them for wholesale.

Amazing clutch, nothing but praise from me.

Can anyone explain the benefits of a 4 vs. 6 puck disc?

Their price for the turbo vesion is $880. Is it worth the ~$100 more than a Spec clutch?

Don't know the answer to that question. I remember Bill (86 951) was telling me that he ran the Centerforce clutch unit as well, and absolutely loved it. His car was putting out ~340rwhp and the clutch has had no problems, and the car still remains as easy to drive as stock.

Since the original question pertained to a 968 motor car w/ S2 flywheel, I assume that the owner will be running an S2 clutch (I don't think it's possible to run a 951 clutch or a 951 flywheel/clutch). From what I have read, the only options for the S2 are Stock, Sach's Sport, Centerforce, and Spec Clutches from Lindsey (?). Out of those four, the Centerforce is cheapest, and offers the most grip without any sacrifice in driveability.
