You are correct.

I just saw a 246 in person last weekend at the DasVroom Car Show in Columbus. Beautiful car, red (of course). No ferrari emblem anywhere, just "DINO".

As Austin said, two kinds of Dinos. If its a 308, like the one pictured, take it and flip it if possible. According to my mechanic/friend, these cars are very expensive to maintain. Repairing a neglected one will cost cubic dollars.

I think those 308 Dinos are really pretty slow. Even the 328s arent any quicker than a stock 944 Turbo from everything Ive read. Back on the Dino front, there was a story a guy on the web wrote about him picking up a Dino and driving it back home a few hundred miles away. The car broke down and there were trials and tribulations. It was on a guys personal site. I dunno. Id pobably flip the car ASAP if I knew I could make a cpl bucks on it. What can a Dino do that a bone stock 944 Turbo cannot do. And do it as "cheap"?

Dont take that as me not willing to be seen in a Ferrari. Some of them are beautiful. The 330s are among my favorites. 550 Maranellos too.

Yeah, Ferraris werent that much ahead of Porsche. The Testarossa was only pushing 5 second acceleration compared to 6something of a 944. I can say i was on a drive with a few mid 90s Ferraris and even under my full acceleration, they pulled away from me like it was nothing. 2nd, 3rd...its the only time the car felt inadequate power-wise!

Most of those cars are engine-out service. Even for spark plugs on some of those, engine out! It's not power on those cars however. Its the experience. The sound, smells, seating position, etc... The brake downs mid trip are just so you can spend some quality time admiring the lines. What else ya gonna do til the flatbed comes?

Yeah I agree its all in the experience on some of those Ferraris that cost twice as much asa comparable Porsche and didnt do anything appreciably better. I can appreciate the serenity and all of that though. There is a value there.

That said, if thats what you are looking for, you could grab an austin healey for a lot less and probably have twice the fun at half the speed.

tim,
hope it all works out - let me know if I can help - if I can, I will.

Did you know that Dave Miller was a Fiat mechanic? I do believe that is correct.

If the Dino proves obtainable and worthwhile, you may have him take a look at it. I'm sure we can coax him down from Winston for a burger and a brew.

Sounds like the car will go the the person that is willing to pay money for it. It might be worth bidding for, but I wouldnt even consider that unless I did a lot of research on the car and saw it in person. Unfortunately it sounds like you've got the short end of the stick here.

Wow, wish someone offered ME free cars on my birthday yesterday - but they didn't. Instead I drove a rented 2005 Mustang. Nice, powerful, but kinda big, lol.

Happy Birthday Julie....a little late though....

BUT, even you know....giving someone a Ferrari that is rusting through SEEMS like a nice gesture....when in reality its the "nail in the coffin" to a friendship! The person will be stressed, go broke, and probably lose the car ontop of it! I'll stick with ice cream cake.

Default Dino badging

Here is one I saw a few weeks ago:-

Dino

The front just has a 'Dino' badge inplace of the usual prancing horse but the rear still appears to follow normal Fezza practice.
