Default FIXED *Brakes Vibrate - Car shakes!* FIXED

Guys, I need some help -

When I apply the brakes at highway speeds, vibrations are felt through the brake pedal as well as the WHOLE car!

I installed new front rotors, thinking they were warped from a previous brake overheating issue, but the vibrations persist.

About the same time the vibrations started, my emergency brake stopped holding the car. Also, a tapping/slight clunk can be heard from the rear passenger side as I go over bumps.

When I'm NOT on the brakes, the car drives fine and no vibrations are felt.
Would emergency brake pads that have separated from the backing plates cause the clunking and vibrations?

Thanks for your help in advance.

In my uninformed world, I would say yes. Pull the rear rotors off and inspect the shoes and the inside of the rotor hats. There may also be a few stones in there also..

It's kind of hard to see how the parking brake and the hydraulic brakes are connected. But I'd take a look in there, too.

Maybe you should check the front bearing adjustment.

For some reason I thought you were going to talk about an obscure Cat Stevens song...

Bad Brakes

Bad brakes whole car shakes
Looks like i'm heading for a breakdown
Black smoke engine beginning to choke
I must be heading for a breakdown

I pulled up for a mouth of coca-cola
Down at Samuel's cafe
Saw a little spanish lady coming over
Said "lady are you going my way" she said "o-lay"

Bad brakes carburettor shakes
Looks like you're heading for a breakdown
Black smoke engine beginning to choke
We must be heading for a breakdown

We hit the road at 90 miles an hour
Heading for 'Frisco Bay
She said "Senor you got cop on your shoulder"
I said "oh now we'd better not stay
We got to get away with our
Bad brakes carburettor shakes
Looks like we're heading for a breakdown"

He was catching up nose right inside our mirror
When the motor blowed
We climbed out and she began to shiver
Oh no sir please let us go
He said "don't you know you got
Bad brakes carburettor shakes
Looks like you bought yourself a breakdown
Black smoke engine beginning to choke
And you've got yourself a breakdown"

I thought it might be the bearings, too, but they checked out a.o.k.

Check your rears, sure sounds like the problem is there.

It was the rear rotors that were warped. I think the passenger side one was the culprit, since the parking brake pads were just floating around. It seems the spring that holds the pad against the hub came loose and allowed the pad to rub against the rotor, causing it to warp.

Hope this helps someone in the future...

Ah dude. My bad. I didn't read the part about the clunking from the rear. My car does that too. I know for a fact it's my parking brake shoes rattling around.

It's all good. Funny thing is, that clunking is still there. I'm guessing it's:

-passenger side rear window rail has come loose
or
-rear sway bar is loose?

Is there anything else around the passenger side rear quarter that would cause clunking?

Get those parking brake shoes fixed, 951!
