Default oil pressure bouncing at idle

Hey all, I have noticed recently that while at idle (and only idle) my oil pressure is very erratic. Normally when warm the oil pressure rests around 2-3 bar; which I think is normal. If I let the car sit at a self regulating idle though (foot off gas completely, not in gear/clutch in) the pressure will spike every second or two to what looks like 6bar, I think the gauge may even be maxing out. If I open the throttle even the tiniest bit it will stop spiking.

I dont know if this is an electrical problem giving a false reading; or if some pressure control is malfunctioning. Ideas?

Mine behaves in a similiar fashion. Hasn't caused any problems though so I haven't gone looking for anything to be causing it. I think I saw some one mention before though that it is normal for our gauge to be very active as it is actually reflecting oil pressure in real time.

its probably the sending unit. as to make that much pressure the spring would have to bind and not realease the pressure very rapidly or something.
change the sending unit. see what happens. the car we just got does the same thing. except it bounces ALL the time.

after changing my sending unit that stuff stoped. if your sending unit is not broken and its reading real time. and your oil pressure is jumping up to 6bar somethings wrong. and if nothings wrong yet you could possibly blow a seal. but like a i said. its prolly the sending unit

Pat, mine bounces too at idle, I was under the impression that it was normal. How long has yours been doing it?

Bouncing is not normal, something needs to be repaired.
