Default Gas station experience story...1979 ?

So I was pumping gas in the Turbo ($35, and I didn't even fill the thing up all the way, highway robbery !), and I see this guy get out of the passenger seat of a Suzuki Aerio. I could tell he was going to talk to me. Here's how the convo went:

crazy guy: "I hope you never get a hole in your gas tank in that thing."
me: "What ?"
crazy guy: "I've got one of those, punctured my gas tank, gotta take a bunch of stuff off to fix it"
me: "You've got a 944?!?"
crazy guy: "Yup"
me: "What year ?"
guy: "'79"
me: "1979 ? It's a 924 or a 944 ?" (I'm very skeptical at this point)
guy: "944. First year they made them, it's a prototype."
me: "Cool man."
guy: "Now I have to take off the exhaust, suspension... to fix the gas tank. I hit something in the road" yada yada

Anyway, I just walked away after that. Ever heard of such a thing ? A 1979 944 ? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills !!

I've had someone at a gas station insist my 924 is a 944. Now granted, my car doesn't have any badging that says "924", just "Porsche" and the Porsche emblem following a repaint by a previous owner. My car has no GT body kit or anything else that would make it look like a 944, not even a spoiler. But the guy was insistent. I just walked away slowly backwards, same technique used when you meet a bear in the woods...

i would have given him so much lip. I hate people who talk about our cars who have no idea what they are saying.

I had one guy come up to me in a meijers parking lot and tell me "Porsches are just like Ford Probes! They both have fuel relay switches in the back of the trunk"

to which i responded "NO! They actually dont, theres really nothing back there so dont compare my car to a ford probe"

then he said "Oh... well i just know some of these porsches have fuel relays switches like ford probes"

Many have no clue about our cars! My good friend rode in my 944 yesterday, and asked "is the 944 better than a 911, because it's a higher number?"!

Yes, I told him. It is better!

There was a 924 for sale near me couple years back, so I called to inquire about it...

"Hello?"

"Hey, I am calling about the 924 you have for sale."

"The porsh?"

"Yes, the PORSCHE"

"Ok, it looks kinda like a 944 except the engine is in the front..."

"The engine is in the front on a 944 as well sir."

"No, they are in the back. I have worked on enough to know..."

"Okay. I guess my 944 is wrong then."

"You have a 944 with the engine in the front?"

"Yes sir, looking at it now."

"THat must be one crazily modified 944!"

Best thing I have read all day.

I had one guy come up to me in a meijers parking lot and tell me "Porsches are just like Ford Probes! They both have fuel relay switches in the back of the trunk"
I would have replied: "Your sister is just like a *****. They both have the same arrangement of body parts, and dress the same, although one smells a little worse than the other."
