968 & 951 M030 - Front strut differences
Hi,
What are the differences in the Koni M030 front struts for the 968 and 951.
I am getting hold of some 951 M030 front struts, and want to get them rebuilt by my local Koni specialist to 968 CS spec. I already have the 968 rear coilovers.
Are they valved differently, or is just a different weight spring?
Dave

I have been wondering about this too.
Looking in the pet the 968 has different springs and the damper part number is different, I have been told it is the 'same' koni, with changed valving, but if you find out the valving I would like to know.
I am considering (if possible) changing the valving when I get the second adjustment upgrade.

They are valved differently, but only to account for the 968 added weight. Have your Koni rebuilder contact Gordon at Koni-NA (gordon@koni-na.com) for more details on that and how to convert them to Double-Adjustable 8741-1172S (this is a good conversion for the units you have, but may be overkill unless you plan on running 300+ spring rates).
Good Luck!

Speaking of contacting Koni...
Is there a secret to reaching these turds?? I've used the ph# you gave me, left three voice mails with Tech, called at least 5 times but never got a live person.
Any tips??

M030 OEM spring rates are the same throughout the 944/968 range : 28 N/mm progressive rate.
That's the same rate as non-M030 968 Lux/CS suspension and non-M030 951 MY90/91 suspension.

I find it interesting Porsche made the 968 M030 firmer than the 944 M030 with stiffer valveing at the front, and with a spring at the rear...?
Strange. But it clearly worked.

I would guess they found that a stiffer valving at the front proved enough to match the set up with rear coil over springs.
Switching from 26.8 mm to 30 mm for the front sway bar certainly has something to do with it - a sway bar somehow acts as a torsion bar, too.
