Default hard to shift after long highway run

Is this a normal occurrence or impending doom? Car shifts fine (5 speed manual) when cold or in city traffic. Give it 30 minutes of 60-70 MPH steady driving, pull off the exit and the shift effort is pretty high. After making a few shifts it gets a bit easier, but probably takes 30+ minutes of city (0-50 MPH stop and go) driving to return to normal, beginning of the day shift quality.

yep, same thing happens to me, except only 3rd gear grinds unless I match the revs perfectly. No shifting problems at all when cold.
