Default The best oils

What is the best oil you have used? I have to use regular oil in my 924S because it leaks so much. I know Mobil 1 is the best synthetic, but what are some of the best regular oils? I use Castrol GTX 20w-50 right now. I heard that it was a good oil. What do you use and what do you think is hte best?

Personally I think Amsoil is the best stuff out there - even better than Mobil-1 or Redline. Once I get my oil seepage problem resolved (pan gasket & oil pump) I'm going to it and will probably never look back. Used it in my old car - it's amazing stuff.

I don't particularly know if this is correct for the US (different climate) but here in the UK most poeple are using 15w40. As far as I know 20w50 is usually only recommended for much older vehicles. Obviously the 15w40 is more able to maintain its viscosity at lower temperatures, therefore better protecting the engine during the initial warmup period before the engine reaches operating temperature.

I myself use Castrol GTX Magnatec (not sure if its available in the US). I was using 10w40 before but was topping up regularly, after changing to 15w40 the topups required are less frequent

Regards

What is the best regular oil that I can run in my 924S? I have just realized that Castrol GTX sucks. I just went on a drive and watched 20w50 have the oil pressure of 4 bars after an an hour and a half of driving. Is mobil better or vavoline racing oil?

I've used Valvoline 20-W50 Racing oil in the past Summer, but only cause it sounds cool! Otherwise I go with Mobil1 for superior protection.

There is NOTHING wrong with castrol GTX. Probably the best dino oil. Mobil 1 is significantly better, however; NA cars dont benefit as much from it as turbocharged ones do.

This is just about as pointless as asking, Which is better 911 or 944?

That's normal. Why do you think that's a problem? If you change the oil regularly, you won't notice much of a difference; nor will your car. Mobil 1 protects better if left in the car longer.

Castrol GTX is just fine. 20w50 in the summer and 15w30 in the winter.

I like Royal Purple. I ran a dyno before and after a complete fluid change Oil, Trany and Diff and picked up 5 ponys just from the fluid change.

I am a Amsoil fan myself, but for Dino oils I like Kendall GT-1 20w-50 (miss the green color).
