hey guys whats up.
My '88 924S and I have been silently around for a while and we just graduated from the wonderful jail of high school. Anyways a recient accident has left most of my front end damaged. Usuable, hardly noticeable, but damaged and my insurance is paying pretty good for me to fix it.
So here's my idea since the following parts are damaged and I don't feel like looking around to find good replacements why not buy fiberglass CGT replica parts.
Parts the insuranse company should be paying for:
-front fenders
-front bumper
-front airdam
-headlights
Parts I'll pay for:
-Rear Flares
-Front Valence
-Rear Bumper
I have noticed a few places selling these parts but the only one that has pictures of the parts fitting right is gt-racing.com. My local porsche mechanic advises against this at all costs saying that fiberglass will never look correct on the car. I don't know very very much about fiberglass but I understand that I will need to take it to a professional for installation. ALSO gt-racing offers carbonfiber replica parts. Would these parts require the same "blending"/"adjustment" as fiberglass. Even though my mechanic advises against it, this is somthing I would really like to do so any advice or helpful hints, contacts would be greatly appreaciated.

Stig, why your kidding? I think a CGT project is a nice project... you may want to swap out the drivetrain so that you have the power to back up your, well, loud statement on the outside.
As for aftermarket fiberglass, it usually isnt the best fit. A good body guy can get stuff to fit better by modifying and blending imo, but again, its money. You do understand for the price of all this stuff, you could probably find yourself in a 944 turbo.
Also, how the hell are you getting insurance to cover that much and not totaling the car?

well... on the insurance thing I'm half there. I've had FULL coverage for he three years I've owned it. thats ~$300 A MONTH!!!!!! then. the accident was "mechanical" ;-) cause I tire blew while I was turning. It took them a month to send out an adjuster cause they said they stopped taking estamits from my local mechanics. Then get this, the adjuster looks at the bumper which just has one of the rubber guards off and writes the estimate for
"overhaul bumper"
parts-$1100
labor-1.5 hours @ $50
Then leaves it on the car. The whole time I was inside and he totaly missed all the other work that needs to be done. He didn't knock or anything. Sure he gave me an *** load for parts but hours at 50 dollars an hour. So I think I can get the rest out of them.

Haha I thought he meant CGT as in THE Carrera GT (v10, 600+ horses, you know the one)...
Haha. Good luck with your 924 CGT conversion!
By the way, Stephen Kaspar at Imagine Auto (www.imagineauto.com) did one, down to the smallest detail if I remember (motor, EVERYTHING). Maybe he can point you in the right direction.

Fiberglass won't look right?? Check my avatar, That is a 924s with a GT-Racing widebody kit.. The front looks even better. In fact the rear is also fiberglass. the only metal is the roof, doors and hood.

The shop in North Van I goto for my parts/advice recently put the GT Racing widebody stuff on their 951 racecar. Ill relay their bitching onto you. Getting the stuff to FIT right and look decent cost them MORE than the cost of the actual parts. IIRC at least twice. This is of course body shop rates by pros. One thing to keep in mind I guess.
Sounds like a cool project!
