Got the car back from the shop. They went over it for hours, checking the valve springs, all elect. connections, fuel pressure and components of the fuel and ign. system. Bad air door in the MAF. The first test of the MAF (ohm/volt meter) did not show a problem. A motec unit was hooked up and several road tests confirmed that the air door was sticking hence the problem at 5300-5500 RPMS.
They could only get it to happen under heavy load and on a street car it probaly not show up. 300.00 for a rebuilt MAF and 900.00 in labor to track down and find the problem.
