Mark,
How do you like the black on linen combo? Hard to keep clean? I like the idea of a lighter interior for a summer car, although it's tough to pass on guards red.

Actually, the Black is probably harder to keep clean than the Linen!

It's a nice combo, though. I don't like black interiors -- too hot where I live, for one thing -- but I used to own a 86 NA with a Linen interior (see avatar) and I thought it was pretty. I'm not the greatest fan of burgundy interiors, although I have a friend with a 951 with burgundy that's in very nice condition.

When I first got the car, the Linen interior was a bit grubby, but it came up quite readily with a standard upholstery cleaner. I've also got black floor mats rather than linen ones, as I did in my last 944, and that simplifies things a lot. It goes quite well because the dashboard is black, etc.

I really wish the outside of the car was as easy to keep clean. But when it's washed and waxed, it all seems worthwhile...

Mark, thanks. It's not a done deal yet, but I can't imagine why he wouldn't sell the car. I've been wrong before though, the car was a Delorean. Every DMC-12 owner believes their car is worth over 20K if it runs at all! Very frustrating, but that's why we switched over to the 914 in the first place! How fortunate.

My baby: 1990 S2 coupe, Black on Linen, 17" Turbo twists
Get your facts straight before I come over/err under there and....
The red S2 was stolen and replaced by the red mullet and a gray S2.
the red S2 was purchased in sept 00 with 56k miles on it and stolen in sept 03 with 74k miles on it. The gray S2 was purchased in may 04 with 54k miles on it.

I think i have a very firm grasp on what S2s are worth.

The 944 may be a collectible by you, but here it is just another used car. there are much better investments than 944s as far as collectibility goes so I wouldnt call it a collector car.

Do a little research on this board. a guy on the board knows someone with one of the first 89 convertibles which was not built by the factory. it was for sale recently. is that part of the 16. Also what are the production dates for the 90 turbos? I bet they were "leftover" 89s given 90 vins.

Have you heard of anyone with one? I know Luis from this board has a rare turbo cab but i dont think it is a US spec car. i think his is a 90. maybe that is the 90 turbo production. from what i read from 90 on the only motor was the S2 motor. remember the US was in a recession, the dollar was bubkas, and the japs were offering twice the car for half the price, and porsche was on the verge of bankruptcy.

I'm not disagreeing with you on anything other than the potential upswing in 944 values.

Was it a DE or a race?

Yep I did not know, and for some reason i am not impressed. Sorry.

What would impress me is seeing you get my daughter and her seat in the back of your 944 mostly stock turbo AND someone in the front passenger seat and get 26 mpg at 67mph on the highway.

Wow, that's nice. So based on that, how much are the cars he is looking at worth? I got my S2 with 54k on the clock for a lot less than 15000. did i underpay, did your dad overpay? is the turbo S worth that much more than a S2?

Tom, does it REALLY get 67 MPG on the highway? Damn! The event was a track day, so, no "racing" but you know we all do that anyway.

Well, I'd rather love a 17 year old car than a 17 year old woman... I mean, Jailbait... ugh. I wouldn't touch that with YOUR 10 foot pole...

And, I do think we overpayed a little, but the thing is immaculate. I was simply stating the cost for comparison reasons. I've never been in the market for an S2. Don't know off hand what they're going for.

And Tom, I just posted all that stuff in attempt to get under your skin. You took it well young padawan. muhahahaha

Young, ha the wrinkle cream must be working. 26mpg at 67mpH.

16500 for any 944 is high in my opinion unless with 12k on it the clutch and belts were replaced. if the disk goes 16500 goes to 18000 which is nice boxster and Z3 money.

Thanks again, everyone - here's the latest news.
The red 89 in Buffalo went for 9,000 - don't know if the 1500 warranty was included but from what I learned here, the 1500 will be needed to replace the clutch. Last the owner talked to me, he was still pushing 9900, well above the 8000 threshold. I was not upset, however, because earlier that day, I agreed to buy the black 89 with 12600 miles on it for 16000, a little higher than the 15500 I was hoping for. The 91 red with high mileage is still available at 10800. I'll be trailering the black beauty home on Tuesday or Wednesday next. Time to join Rennlist!

Congrats! That looks like a beautiful machine - I think you'll be happy. Now time to learn to do those belts.

congrats.

everyone on this board has a story to tell of a few hundred here or there that they should not have spent.

when i bought my gray S2 i came with $400 less than the asking price. the seller came down $250. I was dickering over $150 when dave from the board gave me a slap upside the head and reminded me I recruited him and andy from the board to look at the car, drove about an hour to look at it, and was ready to walk ove $75 when out of principle i was trying to split the difference. the $75 is gas and tolls to see the next car that may not be right/or as right as the one i was looking at. needless to say, i bought it for the extra $150 and have not regretted it for one minute. thanks for the reality check dave and andy.

enjoy the new toy, welcome to rennlist.

OH, i almost forgot. Pictures, we want pictures!!!
