I took the car in today to have the tec change the brakes. He doesn't work on Porsches but has worked at the gm/chrysler dealer over 10 years so i thought changing brakes wouldn't be that hard for him. Well he told me he cant get the rotor of, cant get the dust cap of, and needs to know what torque? to use on the wheel bearing and repacking? etc...... Im not understanding anything hes saying so i need step by step (preferably with pictures) instructions on a brake job for a 86 951 i can give him.
I printed out the clarks garage instruction but that didn't work for him.
ANY help at all would be great!
Thanks in advance.

I don't believe he removed that screw. He said he didn't know how to remove the dust cap and how to get the rotor of. Does anyone have a write up with pictures?
I went to 2 other shops to check and they said they would be able to do it but not today. One said $240 the other said $117.
I just have to wait until next week when i have some time to take it in somewhere.

Removal of the dust cap is fairly straightforward, all you need to do is slowly work it off. I used the opening for the access to the wheel bearing set screw to start prying it off and then work around the perimeter. As for an actual write up, check here:

Plus you should not have to remove the dust cap to remove the rotor.
Only reason to get under the dust cap is to repack or replace the bearings.
I used an impact screwdriver to remove the screw from the rotor - it's on there pretty tight. Once that is done you just hammer it off.

For the front rotors, you need to remove the dust cap & clamping nut on cars through MY '86. MY '87-->on you do not.
If your mechanic cannot do a brake job even when using Clark's instructions, you definitely need to find a new mechanic.

Yeah. For some reason on the early cars (up to 86) and the 924S, they decided it would be a fun, neat little trick to bolt the brake rotor to the BACK of the hub... Therefore, it needs to come off...
the dust cap is cake. all you need to do is take a prybar, screwdriver, or whatever, and hammer it off. it's really not hard, I've done it WAY too many times... from there, once you remove the hub, there should be about 4 or 5 bolts holding the rotor to the hub, once those are removed, you are free.
And I've not yet replaced the front rotors on my 924S... It'll happen soon, but Bah...
