Cheeseball "Porsche" license area reflectors (USA)

Since when were they ever "like OEM"? I am always tempted to email the seller and clarify that point, but obviously that's a super big waste of time, just like it's a super big waste of ABS plastic. Man, I will have to unload the one that's on my beige car for 50 bucks or more, just for some beer (and a lot of beer at that rate). I threw the last one in the garbage that was on my 924, when I still had it. Unfortunately, there were holes all over the place and I had to figure out how to cover them.
I think it was a dealer installed option for the 944, "back in the day" (i understand that some 911s has them from the factory, but they were much more discreet IMO). Don't think that PAG ever put them on from Germany!
But who needs to advertise or even drill extraneous holes in the back area or bumper?! C'mon people - it's a shallow attempt at Porsche rice (um, a stone's throw from Type R).
<rant off> Ok, gripe over! Hmff, sheesh...

I will be putting a blank one or a Porsche one on my car. The PO put one that says TURBO on it!! I tried to take it off, and they drilled like 6 holes for the damn thing, plus 2 holes in the bumper for the license plate. So, I have no other option other than some serious body/paint work. I think the plain one looks decent.

Yep, it blows. (Stupid PO's) I am embarressed to have other enthusiasts see my car, between the turbo light panel and the turbo center caps. I swear all I need now is a turbo windsheild banner. . . . .

it's kinda fun redoing and spending money on all the stuff that stupid POs do beforehand, but the only bummer is that one typically won't see the money come back when and if sold.
Here's an example.. I picked up a running 86 NA (auto) for 700.00 and found these things:
- the motor mounts are shot
- the front seals leak like it's Indian Monsoon season
- same with the seals for the auto-trans in the rear
- interor seats are pretty bad (i.e., missing at least 50% of the leather/vinyl of the paasenger and driver seats)
- Typical: most plastic accoutrements are shoddy and shoud be replaced (temp controls, plastic rocker switches for sunroof etc- typcial)
- Cruise doesn't work
- Odometer doesn't work
- My favorite: the PO's mom didn't want the daughter (the owner, who was at least 20+ years old) to remove the sunroof, so the mom told a mechanic to not make it possible for her not to do so. I figured out that the mechanic had removed the gears entirely from the mechanism. Who knows where it is now (this is the "early" sunroof). So when the car was sold to the new owner (to me) - i will have to go and get the whole gear set.. What idiots!

They weren't OEM but I remember seeing them as a option from the dealer, no? I remember seeing them in a dealer catalog a while back IIRC.

Different strokes for different folks ya know. I really kinda like 'em! When I ever get around to doing the paint job on my '83, I'm gonna drill those 6 holes and put one on. I've got a brand new one that says "PORSCHE" in the box ready to be mounted. Its all in the eye of the beholder. One way or the other, it isn't stupid to some, and others it is. To me, theres much worse things to have to contend with when restoring or fixing up these cars. Have a nice day........or should I say, a good time filling those now empty holes.

Porsche would never offer a piece of junk like that. Believe it or not, som people are still installing them! The ones who really want everyone to know they're driving a real Porsche!

I've never been a big fan of those. Unlike the 911's lens (which I love, BTW, and am not happy that they got rid of it!) the 924/944's lens is just too red.
Though honestly, I'd like it if it was a blacked out or body colored center blank that smoothed out the area between the tail lights.
Oh well...
BB.

The one on my 79 924 was dealer-installed. It didn't have the internal ribs or the raised lettering as shown in the one in the pic. It was completely smooth--I liked it.

I never liked the factory "sunken hole" look of the original 944/924 at the license plate. It looks early 70s, ugly, and looks like something is missing. If we had chrome bumper ends like the 912, maybe I won't mind the license plate indentation so much on the 944/924s. Though I don't care for a big "porsche" or "turbo" sign there, I like something to fill it with. Its like the early 70s 911 compared to any 911 from the late 70s forward. The factory took out the big hole in the center and filled it with a plastic panel that says "porsche". I bet if it wasn't done by the factory, there would be lots or criticism against it. But since its done at the factory, it can't be "rice".
Rock, I like your ability to stand up for what you like. One of the things I hate about online forums is how people try to conform to the "common consensus" in what looks good or what is rice. the 77-80 RX7s compared to the 81-85 RX7 where the factory filled the center with a plastic strip that matches the tail lights also. IT UPDATES THE LOOK OF THE CARS so it does not look ancient.
