Question 924S - what max tire size ?

What is max tire size for 924S ? I think it is quiet easy to meet the limit in the front. My rims are 6x15 phone dials. Will 215/60R15 fit at front ?

Yep. I'm running 225/50/16's on 6"/7" boxster rims - the front has no issue. Now about the 255/50/16's in the rear.. well- THEY do rub.
OEM PD is 195/65/15's on 15x6"..

215 60R15 will not rub on the fenders but will look bad on a 15X6 wheel. They will look like donuts on the wheels because they are too wide. I tried this very tire/rim combo and ended up buying 15X7 phone dials so the tires looked normal.

The other optional size is the 205 for the stock 924S phone dial rim. Adds a little for the width and doesn't look silly. That's what i currently have on my car, And i believe that tire size was optional from porsche on the 924S, atleast it says so in the owners manual.

I forget what I'm running in tire size, but I do know they're 15x7 wheels... I'll get back to you on that.

On the 15x6 rim...I'd say a 205/60-15 would be the widest I'd go with. Overall, on the front with the proper offset wheel, a 205 on a 7" wide wheel is max. On the rear...again with proper offset on the wheels you could easily run a 225 on an 8" wheel without rubbing at all.

In 944 spec we all run in 15x7's using 225/50 tires. They fit easy on the back of the 924S, but can be tight on the front. Some guys need thin spacers other use narrow springs.

You should be able to run 205 front easily and 225 in the rear .

I would put 225's on at least a 7in rim. 205 is max for a 6" rim. 215's should get 7" rims too.

Ooooooh, that's why you have rubbing in the rear. I totally missed that the rear tires are so wide in that other thread. See about maybe sticking some 245/45 16s on there instead. Not a huge difference but it may help.

Thanks for responses and info.

I have two set of rims (both phone dials): 4 x 15x6 with summer tires (to be replaced) and 2 x 15x6 + 2 x 15x7 with winter tires (i think PO has bought an additional set of rims designed for 944 to use in winter). All tires are now stock size 195/65R15.

Looks like I have to do some swaps and go for: summer 205/60R15 on 15x6 front, 225/50R15 on 15x7 rear, and use set of four 15x6 for winter.

Are You absolutely sure 225/50R15 on 15x7 rear will not rub ? I don't want to roll fenders.

What do You think about Dunlop Sport SP 01 ? (or maybe go for Yohohama ?)

Regards,TK

Absolutely certain that a 225/50-15 will not rub with the appropriate 52.3mm offset wheel on the rear.

Good Luck,

Yes No rubbing. I have never hear of a 944-spec 924S rubbing the REAR using the exact tire & wheel size.

Note you sizes are off...

195/65 15 = 24.98" Dia
205/60 15 = 24.69" Dia
225/50 15 = 23.86" Dia

Running a 225/50 is not bad, but does introduce speedo error even though it is smaller.

However 205/60's are too tall for 225/50's

Really you want 205/55 = 23.88" Dia or want 225/55 = 24.74" Dia. What you really need is front and rear tire diameters to be as close to the same as possible.

Check to see what sizes are avalible.
