Hello,

A little intro. I'm an avid motorcyclist. I enjoy riding. Recently I've been talking to the better half about getting her involved in something that I would enjoy. (she doesn't want to ride with me or on her own at all) And after getting my friends (whorepedo on the board) car running last week the idea of a sports car sounded good. So I've been watching ebay and lost a few auctions. When I stumbled upon this car locally.



It's only $400. It's an 83 5 speed. The interior is GONE. (mildew) And I can see some parts that I'm going to need her and there. Should I find a better car and use this for parts or should I rebuild it?

So I'm not afraid of a little work. From what I've seen the price of used parts isn't too bad for the 944. I'm working with the seller right now to arrange pickup of the car. Also he stated there are several other engine parts that are in the hatch area.

Is anyone in the Atlanta area that might have the parts for this?

I would strongly suggest finding a better starting point and using the $400 car as a parts car. Just getting the mice out of that thing would be quite a job.

One big difference between the Porsche at that GSXR (besides the mice) is the rust, mold and corrosion. The wiring and the interior is probably wrecked in the 944 too.

more details, the missing engine componates are in the hatch. The engine does turn over.

I've never seen an 83 with power steering.

No offense, but it doesn't even look good enough to be a parts car.

Definately pass on that one. You'll find a nice '83/'84 for a couple grand if money is the issue. Keep looking!

Welcome to the board... even though im still a newbie myself

that ones going to be a lot of work if we rebuild it. im voting for parting that one and searching for a better one, but ill help whichever direction you decide to go!

The wireing in the car looks to be in alot better shape (not cut up and hanging all over the place) than my buddies car.

I can handle wiring issues. (BTW I used to work for at a Ford dealership)


There's no rust from what the owner states just mold inside.


BTW the only parts that are the same from the GSXR are the engine, subframe, and swingarm. (I even had to rebuild the transmission, a task within itself)

Oh my...I agree with the above, as much as I encourage you to get to know 944's, I recommend against doing it with that car...when the interior is mlidewy like that, the bills start to climb...

And I think a rebuild would be worth it on a 951 or S2. Don't get me wrong, I love my NA, but the rewards of a Turbo are great.

I restored an 01 GSXR in much worse condition as that one 2 winters ago. A lot of fun, That car will be 10x the work. For $400 grab it and part it. The manual rack on the 83 will get more than half your money back. Plus the 83 has forged pistons and rods... Pull those and put them on ebay... That alone will get your $400 back.. Then cutting it into pieces, Sell them and buy a running 944 for a couple grand... That one is ready to be cut up and hauled off.

Yeah, I'm trying to get something cheap. I've bought three bikes for my wife and she didn't even set on the first one.

Just don't want to dump alot upfront without knowing if she'd like it. Course I'm jumping the gun here. But I think once I get it home and see what shape the engine is in (get it running, comp check, tune up) will see what direction to go in.

I'm just looking for something that handles and would be nothing more than a toy. I've even tossed around the idea of autoX'ing.

For $400 you can't go wrong as a parts car. Don't generally see them that cheap.

I'd find one with less issues to fix and drive however.

If you are used to a bike, get a 951.

I've heard that the Turbos are laggy. I'd rather have a NA to start with. The wife dumped her butt off a two stroke motorcycle when the powerband hit.
