My A/C was working marginally last year, however this year it's not blowing cold at all. I don't use it much but I would like to get it working for those hot, rainy days.
The compressor seems to be engaging because when I turn on the A/C switch the RPM"s go up initially about 100 RPM's then come back down to 950. It was converted over to the new 134A refrigerant back in 1999 when the PO also replaced the compressor.

134 sucks. I'd rather pay $65 a pound for r12 and be COLD. I just took every one of my cars to get new r12 pumped. Couldn't get any help on drivers so i had to have 4 wreckers show up at the shop doing it and me in the 5th car. Should have seen the look on their face.
Worse though............. @ $65 per lb, you should have seen the bill![banghead](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/banghead.gif)
RE: dye. You need to have an AC specialist pump it into the system.

It's probably just low on R134a.
If you look at an auto supply store, you can find a can of R134a with dye that you can add to the system. like regular R134a. I think you'll need a special light to see the dye.
If I were you I'd go to Wally World and drop $10 on a can of R134a and a charging hose. Use the directions to put a can in and see if that helps.

I picked up an R-134a service kit from Wally World today complete with a gauge. ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The instructions say to determine if the compressor clutch is engaged and the compressor is running....how exactly would I check that?

I hooked up the gauge to the low side and got a reading of about 70 so it looks like there is plenty of R-134a in the system. However I see a wire hanging off the compressor and it looks like it should be connected somewhere. Does any one know where this wire goes?

Geoff,
I hardly use it at all. But as long as it's there I wanted to get it running. It clears up the windows fast when it's real humid and rainy. That's about the only time that I'll use it. I love hot weather
