Default For those who have installed A/C delete brackets...question.

Hey guys,
When my old mechanic was doing the belts last time I had him install a a/c delete bracket. Im currently about 1" away from having the alternator out but no matter how I angle the alternator the bolt is hitting the back of the fans and refuses to move any further.

Im guessing the easiest thing to do is just loosen up the 4 bolts on the a/c delete bracket to give the needed "wiggle" room for the bolt to come out...for those that installed this did you already have the alternator bolted to the bracket before actually installing the bracket?

thanks, just thinking aloud prior to my next move...

I have done it by having the alt hanging from the bracket already and I have done it by removing the fans. Either way works fine by me.

Yes, alternator needs to be attached to the bracket before installing the bracket to the block..

That's wierd... I didn't do it that way on my 924S... maybe mine is a special case?

NA or Turbo?

Just take the 4 or 5 screws out of the fan assembly and remove the fans. Then the bolt slides right out. You're not going to have much fun trying to bolt the alternator bracket in place with a 15 or more pound alternator hanging off the end of it. I found it easier to take the air filter box assembly out of the way to access the top, driver side fan screw. It's a few minutes extra work, but well worth the time.

Try putting the bolt in from the back. With my SC kit the ac was deleted and the alternator moved down to make room for the blower. On reinstal I put the bolt in from behind.

jharding - does anything else have to come out to remove the fans? Im guessing the water line that runs under the afm if it comes out the top and Im sure something else if it comes out the bottom...Ill have to have a look today I guess...I wasnt going to completely remove the a/c delete bracket - I was just planning on loosening it allowing enough room to slide the bolt out...

There is an upper radiator hose u-clamp, held in by a screw and nut, attached to the air filter bracket. You'll have to unbolt that too. It is a major PITA to reconnect it, but be patient. Don't re-install the splash pan until you've reconnected that upper hose clamp. Why? Because you'll probably drop the nut a few times trying hold the clamp tight while making an attempt to thread the nut onto the bolt. There's not much room in there to fit your hands. Also, don't forget to unplug your fans and remove any tie wraps that hold the fan wire harness to the fans. You will not have to remove any radiator hoses.

on my S, nothing else needs to be removed except the fan wires in order to remove the fans. i installed my engine with the bracket and alternator already attached, but you can remove the alt and bracket by removing the fans as jharding described.

Not sure you can do that. The alternator on my car is the one for a 951 and it has a captured nut on the back side of it, therefore the bolt has to go in from front to back

thats the way mine is as well manning.

and for those listening Autozone just checked my alternator and it came back OK.

On sunday my car died on the road and would not refire, had it charged back by Judson951/Mike Murcia and made it to the destination. Then we took the batt out and charged it manually so I could get home. The car will start, just not charge itself. I bought a new volt. regulator from IceShark but havent even installed it yet d/t the Zone saying the alt. is OK. Ill get a 2nd opinion but this has left me confused....grounds? A bad connection somewhere? This was an all of a sudden type thing.

TIA.

I had the same problem, check the battery first. I did a bunch of stuff and it ended up being the battery.
