Porcho,
I am pretty sure you can't do this w/ a pre-made wiring harness adapter. Try sliding a thin blade of some kind under the fader switch. I think there may be two tabs on the sides that lock it in place and need to be depressed to remove it. Once you remove the tape you will see where they spliced the wires at the factory.

As far as the fader switch goes, just keep pulling you wont break anything. Mine was a real biatch as well just had to keep yanking and rock it back and forth.
