Default Installing a 968 rear (or '91 944S2) spoiler on a '89 S2

My '89 s2 rear spoiler is weather beaten, and has a couple of cracks.

I would like to install the smaller rear spoiler found on the '91 944 s2 or 968 models (I think there are the same) on my '89 s2.

How easy is the swap?

Where can I buy one (OEM is not important as long as aftermarket quality is good)?

Thanks in Advance.

Jon

It's hard to find a place that sells them any more. I don't know of any that are on sale at this time. Teh mounting points are different for the 968 and 944(rubber) spoilers, so the adaption can be done, but you do have to drill the glass from what I've read - not fun seeing as the glass can crack and break. People have done this swapt hough.
The easiest thing to do is to get the whole 968 hatch, but it is hard to find and expensive to ship. If "Lead Foot 944" gets time, he may make a limited production run of fiberglass spoilers this summer, but I'm not sure if that will come around soon or not. GT-racing used to make these, but I've heard they have been discontinued.

Trevor has one for sale in the classified - but just the wing. As I understand it, the mounting points and the side trims also differ.

Side trim lined right up on my '86. The portion below the wing was a different story. The case may be different for your S2.

From what I understand you can save money by just buying the whole rear hatch. Got my from 20th street auto for like 850 shipped. But it may just bolt right up on your car like mike said. I know it cost my friend alot more than 850 to do his though.

The 968 frame is different from the 944 and so the mounting of the wing is different. The S2 wing and the 944 rubber spoiler are a direct swap though (The S2 wing does not have the brake light below the wing like the 968 spoiler does).

Edit
I think if you do a search for the hatch reseal procedure i wrote up, it has pictures of a 968 hatch that we seperated to reseal, you might be able to see the differences in hatch frames.

Actually, you don't drill the glass, you drill the frame when doing the 968 bridge spoiler mount on a 944 hatch.

Good luck finding one... its the "Holy Grail" for most 944 owners. I have a 944Racing aftermarket spoiler as well as a complete 968 hatch and one extra (needs work) 968 bridge spoiler. I am in the process of resealing the 968 hatch since it delamned, and am trying to decide which car I want to put it one. If I decide to sell it, trust me, it won't be cheap... they are very hard to come by, especially since it won't be separated and leaking at the top like literally all of them that I have seen are.

I used to believe that there was a market for these, but I honestly don't think a company could make any money selling them.

Regards,

$850 for the whole hatch is a good deal Judson. I was quoted more than $1200 from several sources. I thankfully did not have to drill the frame or glass, but it was still a PITA. As Scott pointed out, they are a sort of holy grail, so it was worth the effort for me.

Thanks guys for the info.

Its a bit more effort (hard to find part, cost, and install) than I thought it would be. I'll just end up looking for a used "near new" condition used 944 rear spoiler (same type what is on my car now).

Any body have one?

Jon
