Alrighty...I know this isn't the BEST plan of action, but I'm hoping it will hold...

I need a new power steering hose, something fierce...mine is leaking the ENTIRE RESEVOIR in a day...and this is not one of those nice, accessible hoses...this is the one that connects to the PS rack, runs along the cross member, goes into a rubber hose that connects to the PS cooling loops... that small section of rubber hose has fallen apart at the ends, and leaks like crazy...

So...I'm planning on cleaning the area with brake cleaner, and wrapping with duct tape until I can come up with the $100.00 for a new hose...after wrapping with the duct tape, I'm going to give it a nice coating with electrical tape to keep it tight, and looking black... Think it'll work?


Also, do you have duct tape holding anything together on your car?

Disconnect the PS belt until you get new hoses. The fluid in the rack shouldnt leak unless the leak is on the rack itself.

I had to do something similar on my 924S, however it was the upper radiator hose. The hose had a good 1 inch split. I needed to drive the car back and fourth between work. For a two to three week period i drove around with the hose taped up until my father was able to order and Fed-ex me the new hose. It held up fine. Probably could have left it like that if i wanted!

really tho- disconnect the belt for a while. It'll keep you running and save that fat cash you are dumping on ATF for a new supply line.

Porsche dealer has that hose in stock and since I used to work in the parts dept, I can get it at the same price Paragon has it, and I can get it today!

Now, I need $100.00....

Oh yes, and I was informed that there is currently a Gaurd's Red CGT in the showroom...

Reminds me of the time I drove across the country and the upper radiator hose blew on the way -- we went from Ohio to Boston with duct taped radiator hose.

Geoff, I blew that same hose last year and got a used hose on eBay for $30. You may want to shop around a bit. I've been running w/o power steering (belt off) for awhile now, b/c I've been too lazy to get at that hose.

Hmmm...good call Joseph... It is a bitch and a half to get to...don't you have to drop the cross member?

No, but to really get at it, you still need to remove the PS rack from the cross member.

If you can get at the leaking end you can cut the existing hose and splice on a small length of generic hose with a brass fitting and some hose clamps. I did that with one of the hoses connected to the resivoir almost a year ago. I'd completely forgotten that I never replaced it with the right hose until I read this thread....

I have duct tape holding the sunroof FLAP on because the plasitc ends they kept it on broke. thats about it. I used electrical tape on a busted hose once because i was out of duct tape and needed to get to class. Didn't work to well. It just kept it from spraying everywhere...

At pep boys then have black "emergency hose repair kit" that is exactly the same as...duct tape, except you only get about 1/10 the amount of tape you would get for the same price as a roll of duct tape a wal mart.

If you cant get to the hose easily, it's going to be near impossible to get a good flat tape around it. Any wrinkles in teh tape and it will leak.

i tried that fx once when i was on the road..i could not get the tape to stick because of the fluid. even after i cleaned it. It just got all gooey..and would come loose after few miles.

Id just clip the belt till you get it fixed. No harm done and its easier.
