Well, I got my new (to me) fuel rail.It was off of Rock's car and sprayed 60% red.
I'd like to spray it another color that suits my engine bay- what heat and fuel considerations should I think about while considering painting it?
Also, my ol fuel rail will be pressurized and forced to bleed epoxy in the attempt to fill the voids to make it a useable spare- will epoxy break down with gasoline??
just wondering....

I sprayed my rail black with high temp paint and it worked great. Only problem is my stainless fuel lines rub ever so slightly, so under the lines, it is already scratching. I am going to powdercoat it when i get the chance. Other than that, it worked great. Oh also repainted the fuel injectors while i had them off as well.

You know i just read that first post.....if it is leaking and you don't know where, toss it. Too many of these cars go up in flames. If you know where it is leaking, weld it.

I am putting in a replacement GOOD fuel rail.
Tha LAST thing I want is a fire, which is why my car has been red-tagged for the last 5 weeks. I Know, understand and heed the advice of others and am wiser for it.
I am trying to figure out a sealant method without re-brazing or re-welding the OLD rail to make it a useable "just in case" spare. I'm exploring alternative options that others may (or may no) have tried with success.
Thanks.

Chris, get a can of carb cleaner, hose down the rail, keep it wet for a min or two, then hose it down again. It should wash the paint right off, it worked for his intake. Might need a little brass brush for the corners and stubborn parts. I think it'll clean up tho. On fixing the old one for a spaer, we can try to brase it up and a GTG, I have a torch here, bring a brase stick and we're good. We can pressure test it, I've gone air, lol.

No. It wasnt me at all Peckster.
I'm the one who responds by " NEVER repair the rail, simply replacing it with a known good used one. "
Usually followed by "fire is bad" or something equally as eloquent.
This is a project to see if these ARE repairable. I get it. dont bother posting..
Andy- it will become a SOW project, I was wonedring if anyone els had tired this , what they had tried and if they were successful.
In any rate, Thanks for the input Doc, and of course the SOW guys.

Right, must have been someone else. I remember that period a couple of years ago wheh it seemed someones car was going up in flames every week. Not something to take lightly, that's for sure.

The fuel rail can be welded if there is a small leak, i have done this for the 88 NA (RIP) i had. I am no welder, but it needed some "special" type of weld (what i was told). It was very cheap (<$5 or so) to get it welded and never leaked again (the cause of the crack was because of mis-aligned balance shaft sprokets that caused beautiful vibrations throughout the rpms
)
