Default Dealer wants my title

Not really....they want a copy of my title and driver's license to order a part....has anyone else experienced this?....they said it was to show proof of ownership so I could order the engine bay stickers for hose routing and warnings (ACHTUNG!) etc.....just thought this was strange....or maybe just part of the "Excellence"

perhaps its some saftey sue? I agree it sounds strange but those stickers are put there for a reason. If you somehow thought your 911 was a 944 ( dont ask, you never know) and ordered 944 stickers, the warnings may be different, or things such as air pressure stickers and stuff like that may be different, somehow causing confusion and possibly injury.

Thats the only thing I can think of.

I've never dealt with the dealer before......maybe they are checking to see if the car is stolen or something.....don't know.....maybe it is a safety issue, yieldsign.....I will send them a copy so I can get the stickers.....maybe they will show up at my door :-)....

I have dealt with it on the BMW. It is very common with both BMW and Mercedes. They WILL NOT order keys unless you have proof of ownership. Oh, BTW, a new key for my 540 was 165.00.

Is it a dealership in the city? I'm on a first name basis with the parts guy at auto palace, I may be able to just order them for you if you'd like.

The same thing happened to me when I ordered a vacuum routing sticker from the dealer in California. It took about four months to finally get it.

Are you telling me that the new key was supposed to have a flashlight!! There will be hell to pay at the dealer today

I suspect the GTO key comes with a bottle opener and a mullet trimmer

They are probably doing this now for most everything because theives were calling up dealers and ordering keys using the VIN number from the window. They would not identify themselves, and just pick up the new key and go steal the car. The dealers should check for vehicle-specific parts like keys, but that's about all they SHOULD be checking. There was something on the news about this earlier this month. They recommended covering the VIN number in the window because of this.

They do it with the keys because they are laser cut and the encoding for the key is not kept at the dealer. They are ordered in.

With the vacuum routing I am sure it is because of emissions laws. I suppose you COULD be using the diagram on some other vehicle.
