Wink Recall done, AND SO SHOULD YOU!

I contacted Porsche Middle East about the various recalls on the 944 models. A couple of days later, after i gave them the chasis number, they informed me that one safety recall is "open" and i should go to the Porsche Dealership in Dubai (Al Naboodah if that matters to anyone) and get the recall carried out, free of charge.

Thing is, they required the service booklet in order to carry out the recall. So, after informing Porsche Middle East that there is only so little an 86 944 can carry the original documentation, they informed me that is not a problem and the recall would be done anyway.

So, today i passed by the dealership, drop off my car and was told to come and pick it up in the evening.

The result? a brand new fuel hose (the little hose on the fuel rail and fuel pressure damper) was replaced. It's all shiney and golden looking (which makes me jealous).

So, i advise all of you to contact Porsche USA (or whomever is responsible in you're region) and see if any safety recalls are still open. You may get lucky and get a new and free fuel hose installed LOL!

I will call about mine. The line looks ancient, I doubt the recall has been done.

On my 86, that line is gone... it helped feed the fire.

There are recalls for the turbo models relating the exhaust system. But that would not be covers since it is not a safety recall.

There is a website somewhere that listed the recalls for the 944 models......if anyone finds it/has it, posting here would be appreciated

That would not solve the problem, those lines are for teh FPR and FPD, NOT the smaller hose between the FPD and the fuel rail.

Besides, read recent thread(s) about fuel lines anyway.

My 951 has it. Those Swiss don't mess around (Swiss market car).

I guess the other major recall for 1986 cars was already done to yours? I'm referring to the two-piece exhaust manifold. My neighbor in the U.S. had it done in 1995. Should also be free of charge, but I don't know if that recall is expired.

Luis: The exhaust manifold does have the updated piece, but not the x-over pipe (was that a recall?)

Derek: You could have stated that in the begining , since i know fuel lines sold are only for the FPR and the FPD with the exception of rennbay who has that intermediate hose.

Besides, this was done free of charge

Does anyone know if you can buy individual TSB's from ALLDATA in the link posted by ACG, or does the one subscription cost give you access to all of them? Is there anywhere else you might be able to download these TSB's?
Many of them look like interesting reading.

I phoned Porsche Australia in Melbourne this morning on the strength of this thread; no outstanding issues for my '89 S2 (which is not terribly surprising since it has been religiously serviced at the dealership all its life -- until now. ;-)

But it's good to know anyway. Good call, Hosrom.

AllData sells technical data subscription. One subscription (I believe it is about $10 - $15) applies to one model year. I subscribed and downloaded the service data for my 1986 944 Turbo. They include technical service bulletin issued to the dealer such as choosing the right a/c refrigerant oil volumes, recommended tire sizes and pressures, approved engine oils, etc.

Here is an AllData example of the fuel line recall bulletin for my 86 951:

Make : PORSCHE Model : 944 TURBO Year : 1986
