Always thought the color of my car was "Champagne" because I have a friend that had the same color that's was what he called it. Now after "Technicolor" identified his as "Kalahari".... it seems to ring a bell. Looks identical to "The Queen". Where in the shop manuals or PET can I find the color codes?
Hey Technicolor, Welcome!

You might also be Sable brown metalic. Sorry I couldn't find the color codes in PET, OK, maybe I am looking in the wrong place.

I can't believe someone that bought their first Porsche can find the paint codes and I can't! (I have a Porsche and 1/2). OK Technicolor, where are the paint codes? (Whoa, that hurt...but I'm still learning). Oh, and does your car have the wobbles? If yes OR no change the belts NOW!

I have an original showroom brochure for the 1986 944, which includes all of the interior/exterior color options. It shows option code Y4, Kalahari Metallic.
All of the metallic colors were an extra cost option. There were 5 standard colors: Black, Pastel Beige, Guards Red, Copenhagen Blue, and Alpine White.
There were 8 metallic colors: Zermatt Silver, Crystal Green, Garnet Red, Sapphire, Stone Gray, Graphite, Mahogany, and Kalahari.
Hope this helps.

To clear up some of the confusion over Kalahari Metallic (also called Kalahari beige metallic), it is the same color as Platinum metallic, offered up until 1984.
As some have noted, Platinum metallic had some noteriety as, before MY 1983, it had only been available on Weissach-edition vehicles. 83 was the first year it was offered in general on cars as an optional metallic, and quite a few people went with it.
So, it's simple - If you have a car that is Kalahari, it is essentially Platinum as well. Likewise, a large number of the Kalahari/Platinum cars were also ordered with a brown interior. Since your car is an 85.5, the only other brown it could be would be Mahogany Metallic (Sable Brown is from different MYs as well).
Kalahari/Brown is by far my favorite combination. Add fuchs to the combo and IMHO you have one of the most tasteful cars Porsche produced.
