Default I've got a 944 "targa" !!!

Looking out in the RoW for sale area, any 944 with a sunroof or (Schiebedach) in German is considered and labled as a "targa". Very Kewl! Since I've got a "Schiebedach" 944 targa, now I can go ahead an order those Lloyd "targa" floor mat's I've always wanted...

I know it wasn't labled a "targa" from the factory, but I'm all over making the graphics that should have been.

I read somewhere that the whole panel was supposed to come off like the 86 supra, but towards the end of development they made it a sunroof instead.

Hold up, I got something on the targa issue...

Edit - nevermind, the 944 was considered a carrera i guess. That's what I was thinking.

The 944 in RoW with a sunroof is refered to as a "targa". I find this interesting.

Yeah, most people are surprised when then see my sunroof. I guess they dont notice right away cause its painted and not glass. And then are like OH WOW! when i pull the whole roof off! I think it should have been like the 914 and just pop totally off, but i like it either way. Its virtually Targa. And if you use the term Targa as in the 993 / 996 sense, then we ARE targas! They have glass rear window, and the whole top section rolls back. We have a glass rear, and our whole top section comes out too! The new Targa 911s are even hatchbacks almost! The rear window flips up!

S2 Targa it is!

EDIT: Damn, a lot of our car really is open or exposed! Thats a large hole in the roof aint it!

A friend had an early 944 and according to him the manual said "sicherheitscabriolet".
Loosely translated to something like "security cabriolet".

Um, over in Europe they do refer to the 944's lift off roof as a targa, because of its massive size. A normal sunroof is about half the size of what we've got.
