Default Overrev'd Update

As I'm sure some of you will remember from earlier this week, I had missed a shift and the 944 wasn't acting quite right. Several of you suggested that the balance shaft, whose belt was obviously loose (I was able to twist it 180* without too much effort!) had skipped a tooth or two. Sure enough, it was advanced by one tooth! Which appears to be the only problem, since the belt itself was fine, under further inspection.

So, I'll talk to the mechanics on Monday just to get their input (since they were the ones who installed it in August) before I dick around with anything else. But it looks like this will have a simple ending... <knocks on wood>

Thanks guys!

BB.

Sounds great! But I would not re use that belt. If the rollers moved perhaps but if the jolt the belt took caused it to stretch even though visually it appears ok I still would get a new one for peace of mind. Could be a small crack internally in the threads then snap later. Just a thought for you.

sound good. glad to hear there's nothing more serious.

over on the bimmerforums, over-revving and missed shifts have disastrous results.

Sadly, the last time I missed a shift in a Porsche that resulted in an over-revving was in high school while trying to show off in my dad's '74 911. $6,379.13. In 1992.

On the topic, I had a CV come completely unbolted with a girl in the car. I thought, oh *** thats not cool. In fact, car breakdowns with girls in the car warrant its own thred I think!

Well, there are the seven times I've been hit while driving, but none of them were my fault.

Edit: besides, blowing up a flat-six is still a quality f#ck up!
