Cayenne = pepper-wagon.

Cayman = gator-mobile.

Still, I don't understand the logic behind selling a coupe version of a car for MORE than a cabrio version, except that people will buy the coupe. Doesn't seem fair to me.

Me: I'm hoping for a cheaper 'base' Cayman to come out a year later. I don't need no stinkin' horsepower!

So will the base models be the Lesser Caymans then?

Well, looks like i'm one of the few that actually has been really looking forward to this car and will likely buy one. It is a little more expensive than I was hoping but i'll just wait a year and get a used one for a little cheaper.

944 S2 Cabs definitely have back seats. They are tiny so you may have just overlooked them. 968 Cabs dont have rear seats I'm pretty sure.

I really didn't notice anything too wrong with the name till you guys pointed those things out. It does sound a bit too similar to Cayenne, but oh well. I think people will get used to the name.

Name thing aside though... What are they thinking!!?? ARE they thinking??

I mean, weren't the head hanchos at Porsche just talking about how they don't want Boxster sales to cut into 911 sales too much?? So they make something inbetween the Boxster and 911 to cut into BOTH Boxster and 911 sales... I don't understand the logic.

I'm sure the car will be great, but whats with that.. What's with them and not making a budget coupe around or just below the price of the Boxster(maybe the Cayman base will take that role). I think there is a much larger market segment to be had there. Of course maybe this car is to somehow neutralize the negative brand image effect brought on by the Cayenne. Prestige comes first apparently.

Don't get me wrong, I'm loyal to Porsche and German cars in general, but this whole lack of an affordable sports coupe is what is driving a lot of people over to other manufacturers. Hopefully BMW makes an M version of their new 1 or 2 series. That is probably what I'll get next.

I'm looking at new car choices right now and I really like how the Boxster drives, but I don't want a convertible. I would have thought that a coupe would be cheaper than the drop top version. It seems like it is going the same way the new Porsches are heading--overstuffed luxury vehicles. If the car is gonig to be 60k, it'll make my choice easier. Why are all performance Porsches rediculously overpriced? Why can't they build an Elise?
Exactly my thoughts too.

Our cars were supposed to be entry level. Remember though, they eventually got to a level of performance above the 911, and the price wasnt any cheaper. A fully option S2 coupe or cab easily got into the 50s. Thats where this car will be priced most likely. So who knows.

Seriously? The US models have back seats? Bummer. That makes me feel even worse (I think.)

Maybe they deleted the back seats in Australian import models for some reason -- some safety compliance issue? All the Oz ones have is a compartment to store the folded down soft top at the back. Do other RHD models (UK) have back seats?

Are the rear seats as big as the rear seats in the coupe?
