Default 944 turbo cup mirror/VW mirror question?

Ok I have been here there and everywhere looking for some way to find this information.(checked all rennlist posts as well).
I have asked several cup owners(none on this board) for better pictures and information on actual cup mirrors(not aero/968).
What year/model specifically VW mirrors were they? Because there seems to be two styles of that lineage. GTI has variations.
They are very similar however to the 944 turbo cup mirrors have a distinct middle line curve going across the center and most VW mirrors of that lineage have a rounded point. I would also like better clarification on the door mount side.
You can't really use your stock "flag" mounts, and the VW mounts are not blended into the lines of the turbo cup mirrors.(not to mention a smaller footprint)
So who has a source for these, or who has some really detailed pictures so I can try and sculpt some of my own
Thanks in advance and PM me if you want.

Thanks
Been there done that. SE had to have a friend translate it
It seems all roads lead to Asarus.(Thank you two years of French and Babelfish)
Most information is a regurge or the info/images on that site(9 times out of 10 verbatim).

Weren't the turbo cup mirrors simply non power mirrors from a 924? I have a set of what are supposed to be "Cup" mirrors on my car and they look an awful lot like the ones off an early 924.

Those look correct. And based on the tons of pictures I have looked out, I would say they are. I have looked at older 924's and have not been able to find any that look like yours. Is that the way your car came?
And was it a reputable source that informed you that you had Turbo cup mirrors?
It has always been my hope that it was something as simple as "Oh yeah they used those on 924's from yearX to yearY"
I am not looking forward to recreating these. But would enjoy the end result.

I bought them from a lister a while ago, maybe 4 years at least. He was taking them off of his race car and referred to them as Escort Cup or Firehawk mirrors, I don't recall which. The passenger side was missing the mirror glass and had a slightly cracked base, but still mounted up. I managed to find replacement glass and then later found an entire NOS mirror for cheap. I think some places still actually sell them, like maybe Mid America? The part number I have for the passenger side is 477.857.522.P and if I remember correctly the 477 part indicates a VW/Audi parts bin part, no?

Speaking of cheap, the bases are just pot metal, which is why the passenger side was cracked. I managed to snap off one of the locator tabs on the drivers side, but it doesn't seem to effect how it mounts, it just doesn't sit quite right. The mirror housing is a grainy finish plastic.

I believe you are right about the VW part number.
Which supports all I have read about their origins.
I have a pair of VW 86 and 88 Jetta and Golf mirrors, however like I mentioned they don't come to a linear line in the middle, they come to a point. Now I suspect the glass is interchangeable.
Of course they are manual as well. Did you have a part number on the base? I have tried several different VW stores and none carry it or can find it. I was hoping like most things that the Chinese had knocked them off by now(per VW door handles
But the base mount is the rub. I imagine eventually I could track down the top part(though I have not been able to yet) But like you said the base mount is the part that would be a lot harder to find. Maybe there is also a standard Porsche/Audi/VW part number for the base.

Just a couple of adhesive labels with similar numbers, no cast in numbers. One label has 478857522F and the other has 477857522H with the date 05 09 88. The date makes sense because this appears to have be the typical lightweight mirror for special cars. The Cup cars used them and IIRC the 924SE used a single mirror of this type on the drivers side.

I looked at those pictures in Tweeks/Mid a million times, and it never clicked!!!
I guess because I can't see the front side-what horrible marketing!
And the cost..OUCH!! Ok, you buy them and take pictures. Then send me the part number. That way we know for sure
(or if you already have then which do I need?)
And are these aftermarket of VW/Porsche/ part numbers?
The prices vary...so what is the difference!!
404-943 Mirror, Manual, LH Low Stock
$149.99 $149.99
404-942 Mirror, Manual, RH Low Stock
$89.99 $89.99
404-944 Mirror, Manual, RH Temporary
Shortage
$199.99 $199.99

Surely there is another source!!

The numbers on the Mid America site are their part numbers, most likely a pick location in their warehouse or something.
