All right, stupid question. What the heck is the torque spec for the wheel lugs on the '86 951? I looked on Clarks and in my factory manual and can't seem to find it anywhere. Where the heck did is it again?
For some reason 120 N-m (+/- 96 ft-lb) comes to mind. . .

Haha, I see you've had your tires changed at Wal-mart too!
They tightened one lug nut so tight I had to use an impact gun to take it off, and the other 3 came off with a short-handled socket wrench...
I always tighten to 96lb/ft, and it seems I have been right on

I went down to re-torque them and DUH! Guess what? My torque wrench still had 130 N-m dialed in from the brake job on the 944 a week ago. Figures. I could have looked at that and saved myself the trouble, but it's good to know it's the same for both cars.

When I have my tires rebalanced I give them my soft socket, tell them 95 lbs, I want them to use a torque wrench and if they strip an aluminum lug nut they are only available from Porsche as a set that costs $130.
What they don't know helps me.

Absolutely good advice.
Any outfit that makes their profits on bulk is trying to keep costs down by using the cheapest labor possible - that means the local high school dropout that's got delusions of getting sent to "mechanic school" on the shop's dime usually is the guy working the balancing machine and doing stuff like tire rotations that they're not going to waste a more highly-paid ASE mechanic's time on.
