All my locks freeze when it gets too cold up here. I now carry a can of WD-40 everywhere I go. I found that by popping off the carpet in the trunk opposite the keyhole I could turn the unlocking mechanism by hand to make sure the hatch pins catch when I close it. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be exposed like that but it helps me. I also did the whole cleaning and adjusting thing described by others because it wasn't releasing properly before. good luck

Sorry I was thinking hinges... The latch was a 13mm (if you are talking about the two nuts on the studs... I had to undo them yesterday setting the new hatch on.

Sounds like someone should invent lock defrosters!

why wd-40? i found the stuff is good for a while then gumms up horribly!
go to your hardware store and by a product called tri-flo. much better than wd-40 in the long run.
wd-40 should be only used to initally de-gunk or de-grease something..
just my 2 cents worth.
have fun

use the wd-40 to clean, then use lithium grease... works like a dream.

I've found that the wd-40 comes in handy for other things too, like when my A/C compressor came loose and my belts squealed at 400 decibels while I limped it home. If I stopped every once and a while to spray the belt it wouldn't squeal.

I hear holding a candle to a belt (not lit) and rubbing the wax on it while it's in motion keeps it from squealin...

WD 40 and Lithium greased today. A balmy 45 degrees.. lets see if its better when it gets colder.

My god, after looking at Keith's thread I realised I'm averaging over 2500 posts a year.
Tom R- you are correct, sir.
