The Fuch's Finish
I have a '86 944 and I am looking for some really good polish or something that will make these things shine. I don't want to get rid of the wheels because they are the originals and the wheels and priceless!!!
Another question is when those wheels come from the factory what is the finish on the lip. Is is aluminum? Does it have a clear coat? If any one knows a really good technique to polish these priceless wheels I would like to know. They are dull from sitting for two years and the have pit dust that is permanent unless some one has a really good idea to clean them. If you have any suggestions please tell? Open to all and anything!

IMO, give em a polish around the lip, and take em to get powdercoated for a real DEEP color and a thick strong paint job. They'll last a lifetime!
My Dad got a sandrail frame sandblasted and powdercoated including misc pieces of the frame and front end for under $800 bucks from a local place. Not expensive for a good quality job, and a rail frame is much harder to spray than some rims.

The original fuchs finish has a black anodized center. The lips have fine, machined lines and are clear coated. You cannot reproduce the Fuchs finish without specialized equipment.

Stay away from chroming. In general, chroming involves dipping metal into the chrome itself. Over here (Dubai) we have chroming services but for furniture, the wheel specialist i went to told me that they had bad experiences with chroming wheels since the chemicals reacted differently and after 2 months of exposure the wheels started looking 'odd'...........unless offcourse the wheel specialist knows what he's doing then i guess it's ok since you guys (in US and Europe) have better facilities than what i available to me here....

Let me second the reference to Al Reed Polishing in Anaheim, CA. Whether you want them fully polished and clear anodized or left bare, or you want them restored to Concours-like original condition, Al is your man and he isn't expensive either. No question, Al Reed will make them awesome...and I am not affiliated with him in any way. Good luck, Dan
