After rummaging through a pile of old-ish car mags I came across this article from a 1993 issue of UK based magazine called Car (imaginative name don't you think !). Anyway I thought it made good reading, so here's a link.

Taylor, they did not. Porsche racer/dealer Ludwig Heimrath built at least two 'replica' cars. The one here has many genuine parts, including engine, trans, wheels, body panels and parts. Very, very fast-I've driven it often.

Oh my. I think I just made a wet spot. So, the 3L in the S was an 8 valver. Sounds like they used some old hot-rodding know how by mixing and matching different parts (crank, head, etc) from the powerplants over the years? This thread has REALLY made me appreciate the 968, which until now I always regarded as the death roll for the lame duck 944 series. I was WRONG (facing Stuttgart on my knees and begging forgiveness).
