Smile 924 Carrera GT v 968 Turbo S

After rummaging through a pile of old-ish car mags I came across this article from a 1993 issue of UK based magazine called Car (imaginative name don't you think !). Anyway I thought it made good reading, so here's a link.

Very cool! Makes for a fantastic article when you bridge 15 years of technology like that.

Agreed. Did the 968 S come to the states?? That is sex on wheels, man. Hell, so is the GT. And yet, we still see these awesome cars placed in the "other significant cars" category by the Porsche media and the masses. Shame.

Taylor, they did not. Porsche racer/dealer Ludwig Heimrath built at least two 'replica' cars. The one here has many genuine parts, including engine, trans, wheels, body panels and parts. Very, very fast-I've driven it often.

Damn, man. THAT is hot. Your car is no slouch, either, Damian. I presume the conversion doesn't take TOO much, eh?

A turbo S was for sale in Germany a fwe months ago for 70K euros or so. I'd love to get my hands on something like that.

Oh my. I think I just made a wet spot. So, the 3L in the S was an 8 valver. Sounds like they used some old hot-rodding know how by mixing and matching different parts (crank, head, etc) from the powerplants over the years? This thread has REALLY made me appreciate the 968, which until now I always regarded as the death roll for the lame duck 944 series. I was WRONG (facing Stuttgart on my knees and begging forgiveness).
