Default Worst case of the mondays ever, not 56K friendly!

Well, today started off alright, opened the mailbox to over $1000 in cheques (got a nice scholarship), drove to school, and for once, my heater was working well. I was worried the heater core was plugging up, as previously I would only get heat while moving. Park the car at the University, head in for first day of classes for the semester. I then realized I forgot my parking pass at home, so I wrote a nice note, and left it, asking them to run my plate, and telling them that I do indeed have a pass.

Around 3:45, I was taking a nap until my next class, and my phone rings. I answer to a constable from the calgary police service, and he tells me he has a surprise for me. My first guess was that they were towing my car for not having a pass, and I was getting ready to raise royal hell, when he informs me that the fire department had just left.....

I don't remember exactly what happened next, since I had just woken up, but I just booked it out to the parking lot, to see what was left of my car.....

Looks like my lower radiator hose heater ate it. For some reason, the thermostatically controlled heater decided to go nuts. The heater was _SEVERELY_ melted, and my entire front end was burned to a crisp!!!
Pictures follow... I don't know how much I can explain.

I remember talking with the police officer, and I told him that I thought he was calling me about my parking pass, and said 'If this is what they are going to do to people who forget their parking pass, I'll never forget it again!'

I think this officially goes down as one of the worst days of my life.

I guess it's no longer for sale.

In one of the pictures of the ignition coil, you can see my heater on top of it, with a big drip of melted metal hanging out of it.

Further down, there is a picture of what is left of my AFM, which melted all over the crank pulley. Apparently it got a little bit warm!!!

I figure this is the picture to start out with...
Then the summary of the damage.

And the rest.

The last picture is the pile of crap on the ground when I rolled my car back.
What isn't shown, is my melted front-right tire, it's just brutal.

In the picture, you can see what's left of my head light, and power steering belt...

Thats terrible, when you figure out what caused this one please let us know! The worst part is that this one happened while you were away... thus you had no time to react with a fire extinguisher to try and save her.

I have fire/theft/vandalism coverage, and I asked my insurance company whether it depends what caused the fire, and they said a fire is a fire is a fire, so I'm covered, I'm about 99% sure it was the lower rad hose heater, but I just don't get how it burned. It should have melted the hose, and fell out on the ground....

It still hasn't really sunk in yet, at this point it's still funny. When I'm driving my subaru on wednesday (85 GL wagon that I was about to send off to the wrecker's), that is, providing it runs, that's probably when it will sink in.

Well, at least I have the turbo?.....
Unless it burns too...

Wow, that's bad news, sorry to see it.

What is a lower radiator hose heater? An engine heater? The car was plugged in? If it was relatively new you might send pictures to the heater company.
