Default Source of engine hardware

Do you guys know a good source for the internal engine hardware for a 951? I bought mine with then engine torn down, and rather than sorting through the box of hardware I have, I would like to replace with new stuff.

Thanks,
~Eric

you can get most of the common nuts/ bolts/ washers at your local hardware store. for instance, all the intake manifold bolts on my car can be found at the local Ace. and these are allen head bolts, specific length, grade, and thread pitch. so a lot of the common things are pretty easy to find. don't go to the dealer or order out of state

Yeah, I spent $10 for some silly bolt at the local Porsche dealer before I found I could get the same thing at a local hardware store for less than $0.25. I've also replaced a lot of the 6mm bolts (belt-covers, belly-pans, etc.) with Toyota parts that have built-in captured washers. Saves a lot of time, especially when aiming a socket upwards.

They are commonly available - every time I'm in Home Depot I just clean out the bin of M6 and M8 bolts and washers, they're all 8.8 grade. I've got a pretty nice stash now.

I was up in Gilroy visiting Bill one time and I had a small leak in my BBS wheels due to broken bolts. Went to a local DIY home-improvement store in his area and they actually had metric 7mm bolts !!! Leave it to BBS to use a very oddball 7mm bolt (or maybe they were trying to save weight). I was VERY surprized to find a store that stocked that kinda stuff...

Just wait until one of your .25 cent bolts had a different head size than the stock bolt did and you cant tighten it all the way down after spending an hour at 1/8th of a turn at a time. They are not that expensive and someone makes an entire kit. Scott Harrison has the link, let me get it from him. You can pm him at sh944 here at Rennlist. I believe the place is called Eagle (fasteners, hardware, something).

Its Eagleday.com, and they have some very nice stuff and their service and delivery are good, too. I have bought a few times from them and have been happy.

dilberto he's got a bucket too but he just wants to replace the bolts with new ones. That being said, Eric if you are planning on ditching the old bolts mind if I take them off your hands? I know for sure that when I pulled the motor apart that there are a few bolts that I will need to replace and being the lazy person I am a box of porsche bolts will do.

Funny, I've come to the opposite conclusion: It's better to buy the parts from a Porsche parts re-seller than go hunting for stuff. Would never go to a dealer, though.

Some things do work out fine but Porsche engineers could put any length, type and thread pitch in that they wanted to. And they did.

Now when I'm doing a bigger job I add the fasteners I know I'll need, or maybe an assortment that I might, to the order. Having the PET is really handy for this. Then I order by number and am not spending 2 hrs of a Saturday afternoon hunting for long 8mm studs or 12mm bolts with 1.5mm pitch.
