Default advice: The new baby needs shocks, rear brake pads

What do people recommend for products, I have an 87 944 manual. Does my porsche have shocks or struts? I've only had it for two days so my questions are basic.
I need brakes
I need shocks
So, if you please, I need advice.

Thanks fellas

Edit: I'm a moron The kind you get depends on what you want to do. If you are just want street driving, there is a kind for that or if you plan on getting a little track time, you can even get shocks for that.

Brake pads are an easy switch, so I'm told. I'm about to do mine. I'm going to put on the PBR Delux pads from www.performanceproducts.com , a rennlist sponsor.

The car has front struts and rear shocks, and there are many options for you. First you need to set criteria for ride quality, would you like it to be more sporty, or still soft like the factory, what sort of budget are you working with, should they be adjustable.... etc etc....

Paragon-products.com has a good customer support and wouldn't be a bad place for you to look for both the brakes and the shocks/struts.....

If you dont want a very stiff ride, get KYB shocks. Very cheap, and pretty danm good. Bilstein HD's are good too. A little stiffer and more than 2x the price. Koni's are just stupid

Brakes...lots of choices. Many people like PBR metal masters. If you're planning on replacing rotors too...stick to stock ones. Drilled rotors are rice (dont hate me, but you know its true).

I put in Koni Sport Yellows. Fronts are easily adjusted in the car, and rears are easy to take out to adjust. Good range of adjustability. They're incredible (and pricey...but still incredible)!

But...If you're not going to push the car, cheap shocks (like the Boge or KYB stuff) would do the trick for daily driving and such.

There is no reason why you should get boges. Primitive hydraulic shock....the KYB rapes it at nearly 1/2 the cost.

Speaking of shocks/struts... how do you know when yours need replaced, especially if you're not familiar with how 944s with good ones drive?

You know how when a chick runs, and her ***** bounce up and down? Well. If you push down on your car and it continues to rock up and down like *****, you need new shocks...

Original Boge's will let you know once they start spewing their nasty hydrocarbons all over the place.

Check out Danno's suspension's upgrade list. Tires, wheels and such. Tifo's suspension it the nicest I've ever experienced. Dont re-invent the wheel, benchmark.

I just put the Mintex C-Techs on the 944. . . they seem pretty good thus far.

I tried the "push the corner down and see how many times it bounces" trick, but when I did it, it didn't seem bad really...just went down, then up. But when I was driving, it was really obvious. Every dip or little "hill" in the road turned my car into a prancing horse, turns were really mushy and sluggish feeling, etc... Felt very unsafe. So I did the right thing (ha...haha, ha....) and spent more money than I had to replace them. "well, if I want these good shocks eventually, then why would I spend 200 on "ok" shocks now?" Right? *sigh* Still glad I got them, though

Hi,

I bought the car so that I could feel like I am in command of the road. All my previous cars felt unsafe when I drove the way I want to. I want to buy shocks that hold the road and keep me as in command as possible. Comfort is definitely second to safety and control.

Since were on to suspension upgrades now... Springs should be DEAD last on your list. In the words of the infamous Danno, it's simply a compromise for a primitive suspension. Get the best tires you can afford (ideally bridgestone s0-3's). Then get the biggest sway bars you can afford (951 m030's at least). Then get bilstein HD's. You should be bankrupt by then.

Good luck.
