Default sunroof doesnt lay flat!

For some reason when my sunroof is closed it won't lay flush with the roofline of the car. The sunroof doesn't look warped or anything, but I was told that it very well could be, Does anyone else know what it might be, could it be the seals? Thanks.

Do the lifting arms line up when they are down? That is, when the roof is out do the arms sit evenly against the housings? Or are they uneven?

arms are even, the sunroof seems to have an even 1/8 inch all the way across the rear, it lines up nicely with the front, and then it just slopes up gradually...I can't figure it out, seals look in really nice shape, too.

might want to check the position of the limit switch on the motor ***ý in the trunk.
move it slightly back to see if things improve.

Is the sunroof attached to the lifting arms, Can you lift up on the rear of the roof, or is it tight?

Darwin, my sunroof has the same problem. It has nothing to do with the microswitches, etc. It has to do with the felt seal around the moveable part of the sunroof. My seal was getting ugly looking so I ordered a new one awhile back from one of the well known internet suppliers and installed it. It is slightly thicker than the old one and does not allow the the sunroof to completely close. It is that simple. I was told that the 1985.5 and newer seals are larger than the older models--maybe they sent me the wrong one. To remove my sunroof, I cut the seal on each side (with the sunroof open a couple of inches) so that I could remove the seal from the back up to close to the front. By removing that part of the seal, the roof will close completely and allow the arms to detract enabling removal. A real pain in the ***. To determine if the seal is the problem, detract the arms and see if the roof will snug down into the roof as it should (by gravity). Good luck.

gsenn, I have been kinda thinking that is exactly what I'm seeing on my two cars. One (85.5) the sunroof works OK (squeaks) and seems to have a thinner seal than the new seal that has been installed on my 87 (gears stripped and rear edge sits high). I may have to try your surgery idea. Will try to get some pics of the two....Bruce

Darwin, I will take pictures of my seal surgery and get them to you ASAP. In my humble opinion, the sale of oversized seals has caused a number of gears to strip, especially in the later models. It would be nice if the after market seals were made to specs. Have a great one.

Thanks, Ill watch for the pics, I hate that it sits uneven, it bugs me. I'm sortof a perfectionist so I notice all the little things...Anyways, thanks and I'll keep a look out.
