Question My head makes a clicking/ticking noise...

Hey guys,

Since I bought my car in mid December the head has been making a clicking noise, it sounds like mechanical noise from the camshaft, lifters, etc... and I've heard that air can get in the lifters if the car sets for a while (it was only driven 3k miles in the past year). Is that true? if so, what can remedy the sound? If not, is there a problem in the head itself? My VW makes the same sort of noise, but it's not as loud. The 951s noise is audible with the hood open, but not so much with the hood closed, and you can't hear it in the cab while driving. Thanks for any input you guys have.

The Bosch injectors are fairly loud. You can distinctly make out the sound with the hood open, barley with it closed and i dont hear anything like it while in the car. If it sounds like a relay clicking contiuniously, its likley the injectors.

It's probably the injectors. if so it's normal.
EDIT. Damn you Harry- I was thinking the exact same thing...

sounds probably like the injectors.

in my M3 it's usually the lifters, which happens after driving the car hard. remedy is to overfill with oil

Default Thanks!

Thanks guys, I had no idea that was the injectors, it does sound like the clicking of a relay. Hey Joseph, PM sent to you about that exhaust. Thanks again guys.

maybe it's the sound of the lifters? the cam is the culprit there and that's much more common than injectors being that loud. I have the same fuel system in another car and it does the same thing

i'm telling you it's the hydraulic lifters, the click gets less loud as it warms up cause the oil is gettin thru them! My audi does the same thing.
