Default Rotors...vote now!!!

The landscape is performance brakes. Which rotors should I consider when replacing my stock ones? Slotted, Drilled, Slotted & Drilled, Stock-ish?

when a interviewer asked a ferrari technician why the 360 race cars come with normal rotors, whereas the 360 modena for the street comes with cross-drilled, he said because "they look cool and thus people buy." basically, it all comes down to what your'e worried about. it really won't make that big of a difference for street driving...i would actually recommend oem rotors for that. you have more of a frictional surface to reduce speed. on the track under HARD and constant breaking, the cross-drills for heat dispersion MIGHT make a small difference.but that's just imho.

I think I'm in the same boat....as long as you get discs and pads made out of good materials (don't ask me what those are ), lacking any of those cooling methods probably won't be the deciding factor in how soon/whether or not your brakes start to fade. Take that with a grain of salt, because I'm only speculating.

On the track the cross drilled will run hotter than plain rotors and crack after repeated heat cycles. Drilled/slotted rotors are for show ONLY.

Since your question is for a "performance" rotor, go with plain.

I voted OEM. The stock rotors are pretty darn good. No big bling factor but they stop you real well.

OEM rotors rock!

Drilled rotors have more edges where cracks can develop.

Unless you want drilled rotors for looks, they really aren't any better than solid rotors.

Slotted - I have no experience with them, therefore, no comment either.

Here is my vote! Drilled Zimmerman's...

I have had these 2 years and have not even a hint of cracking. I have used Hawk Plus pads and the rotors have had a pretty hard life to date!

I voted OEM and have used slotted, drilled, and OEM plain and agree with the majority that performance is relatively equal. Drilled look cool, but solid are best in the long run.

Anyone bother trying out Frozen rotors? Cryogenically treated to insure maximum lifespan. I have never known anyone that has used them.

What's a cheap source for OEM rotors for an 86? I think I'm due for them on on my next brake change...

Slotted reduce cracking problems of drilled rotors, efectively vent hot gasses, and wear pads more uniformly than drilled. Bottom line.

Yes, and it also increases cracking and wears pads more than plain, while hot gasses are a thing of the past - modern pad compounds do NOT outgas past their initial break-in.
