Default 924/944/968 Online Magazine - Need Ideas

Ok, so the post by the 911 sponsor got me thinking....what is holding us up? There are plenty of us with enough tech knowledge to cover that aspect, some of our very own produce products that are handy and work well, some of our guys even write for other publications.

So, my question is, why not? Why dont we once and for all solve the issue (pun intended) and create out own publication. Anyone got suggestions, volunteer work, ideas, etc?

I'd volunteer my writing and editing experience.

The issue here is going to be money, and finding people/advertisers to fund it.

I think it might be cool to do some sort of "online" magazine (verses paper) to get it started and off the ground. That would be cheap (would only need some webspace). We have enough writers, techies, photographers, and programmer/designers here in our stable.

I was going to say, i really dont think there is enough of a fan-base to be sucessful with a magazine print. I think the best method is too try and start some type of online publication first.

Isn't the market too small to make it viable? most of the audience is on this board so how does that compare to the number of issues sold needed to make it work?

An on-line publication would be easier/cheaper to get going. Perhaps as an ad on to the Rennlist forums???

I'd subscribe to a Rennlist Magazine (hint John D).

OK, you are probably right. I am game for an online. Finding someone to host it should be no problem.

How should we proceed? Any ideas on layout, content, etc?

It needs to be simple and not look like it was done by teenagers on crack (the way a lot of online mags look nowadays).

Maybe a monthly tech article or two with good pics. An article covering trends or a particular event every month. Maybe something covering a reader's ride every month. I'd like to see a historic article too covering the history or racing pedigree of the 924-944-968 series.

Just brainstorming here more than anything else......................

How come we couldn't get a calendar published, yet we're talking about a magazine here??

So lets see, we need the following to start:
1 web programmer - or someone who can turn our work into something that can be read
1 editor - we dont want it to look like 16 yr. old kids on crack wrote it
1 very well written legal disclaimer

A few people to do tech write ups/take pics. A good example of this is the writeup by Andre of how to do the IceShark cable install
A few people to do racing/historical write ups
A few people to submit pics, etc of their cars for a "readers rides" section
A few questions for a Q&A section

Anything else.

Let me volunteer this much: I will edit to the best of my ability and I will certainly attempt to answer as many questions as possible. For the VERY technical stuff, we have other listers that can help (though we will have to ask).

Thoughts?

I think that maybe I could help out quite a bit with this concept. I have a meeting Thursday morning with my partner and I will throw this idea at him. He and I are both early 924/931 guys and I think we could add significantly to this aspect of the mag. Also, he is an IT professional and photographer, so I know he can make something happen here. We may even be interested in some small sponsorship or advertising space.

Definitely like the idea of tech section, historic racing, and highlighting a particular ride on a monthly basis.

Keep the ideas coming.

Wow, thanks for the offer. Very nice. The 924 stuff is something that I am lacking in so I know that would be interesting!

I think that a regional "calendar" of events would be cool, to let people know where and when events are going on. Along that line, I think reports from AX events and or write ups detailing DE/track time would also be good reading.

Matt I'd certainly be interested in helping out. I'm pretty good with a camera and you can generally assume it's with me when I'm working on the car.
